Just thought I'd post some pics of the current status of my 57 T-Bird project; the car is currently getting a Cobra motor swapped in. Anyway, the pics are at http://s241.photobucket.com/albums/ff99/featheredmafia/57%20Thunderbird%20Project/. You'll notice that yes, the engine is actually resting on the upper A-arms, but we'll solve that by moving the engine farther back. But I'm excited to finally see the engine in the car and I thought I'd share.

I like.

That is going to be a fun car when it's all back together.

Very cool project. I've dreamed of doing that since the 4V mod motor came out.

A close second is dumping one into a '62 'vette just to piss off all those who think a SBC fits everything.

This one's going to be a cruiser. Aside from the stance and wheels, nothing from the outside will be changed. We're keeping the engine mostly stock, although we have to come up with a new belt routing since space dictates we have to lose the A/C compressor and the power steering pump. The car also has Wilwoods on all four corners, Fat Man drop spindles up front, Griffin aluminum radiator, SPAL fan and a Flaming River rack and pinion steering setup. We're not looking for anything too crazy, just 300-350 hp at the crank. The wheels will be from American Racing, either the Salt Flats or the Hopsters. Oh, and the trans is a T45...I like to shift my own gears.

Whats cool is the mass of the dohc motor. A buddy of mine had one in his stang but carbed..Youde swear it was something other then a 4.6 DOHC at first glance.

cool project I was thinking of using one of the 4.6s from a lincoln in an early cougar but was not in a position to modify the shock towers as the engine was too wide. Maybe one day. so what is going in the cougar next to it on the right? looks like a 67 by the fender.

Sweet...remember to take 6-9 into consideration when mounting the seats :)

It'll have the stock bench seat with the stock white and black tuck and roll upholstery, but in leather.

How is the body?

You have any issues with body as far as rust? Wyane Torkelson in Concord Calif use to restore 55,56,57 tbirds do you have the original port hole top? I got a lot of extra 57tbird emblems, lenses, and other stuff from Pristige Thunderbirds when we where building my 57tbird let me know if you need anything do still have the original 312ci engine?

The car is pristine. It's been in the family since 1964 and there's not a spot of rust on it anywhere. The paint on the car is somewhere around 20 years old and it looks as if it was sprayed yesterday. We stripped the flat black paint from the engine compartment, but seriously, look at the quality of metal in there. The whole car is like that. And I have the original porthole hardtop, original soft top and all the trim. The bumpers are being rechromed, but aesthetically the car is close to perfect.

I've posted the same link over on the Vintage T-bird Club Int. website just to see if I get hate mail.

Very Nice. I would look into putting one of the Sullivan intakes on it with a carb.

This one's going fuel injection all the way with a returnless fuel system.
