Drive-in's
We have one left in Sacramento you can see whats left on a few others old rotted ticket booths weeds all over. Its kinda sad there all going to walk in theaters kinda takes the fun out bringing your hot rod or muscle car with your hot girl injoying the show :-) We had a big drive-in Thunderbird drive-in you would see some awesome muscle cars in the late 60's early 70's and it had a big A&W drive-in on the corner after the movie we all go there

The last one around here was turned into a Lowes and Target at least 10 years ago. I remember going there regularly in the early 90's.
It's depressing, sort of like how the old smaller amusement parks have closed down.

They have been gone from around here for atleast 20 years. There were two and both are condo/townhome communities. The last one i went to was in Henderson, KY in 1997. I do miss them a lot.

It's sad, I'm younger than alot of you guys, and I even remember the drive-ins. I remember going to one in my dad's 1972 Ford Gran Torino with the 429 before it got hit and totaled.
Drive-in are always fun.

I grew up outside of Detroit.
The Michigan Drive In in Southgate had a small amusement park right in front of the screen. A few rides and such. Late 50's early 60's
Then just before the show started everybody headed for their cars rolled up the windows and a truck would drive thur the aisles fogging for mosquitoes. God i can imagine what they used. probably full strength DDT.
With 7 kids we didn't get much from the snack br, we brought our own popcorn as well. Half a grocery sack one in front and one in back.
and a few lawn chairs out side too.
Now when i was in high school in California, we had a Drive-In in Newbury Park. Early 70's
A friend of our worked there so it was free to get in. He'd see us in line and wave us around everybody and thru the gate.
We used to park a couple cars to or three apart and fill the space with chairs.
I think we saw "Live And Let Die" 10 or so times.we drank beer but didn't get to rowdy. So we had a good time.
But if you went with you girl friend you parked way in the back, ya know.
Now the drive- in in Newbury Park was closed down for years, the demolished it. and a few years later the put a Kohl's and a bunch of small eateries.
I do have on of the old speakers in my garage somewhere, i'll give it to my son and he can bring it to the Antiques Road Show.
Well got to go...
Watching "Balls of Fury" dvd Big Screen TV.
well now we know why they aren't around any more.
Movie Theaters are next

I think we have 1 left in OKC on the south side of town. Used to be 1 about 2 miles from our house on US66. It closed and at one point was a golf driving range. Now it is just overgrown with weeds.

When I was a teenager back in the 60's the drive-in was the place to go on a date. I went to many a submarine race at the drive-in. You guys remember the submarine races don't you? How else could you explain the little feet print marks on the headliner? I lost my virginity at the drive-in in a Volkswagen!
Does anyone remember the #1 movie at the drive-in back then? It was Thunder Road with Robert Mitchum. A true classic. If you younger guys have never seen it, try to find a copy at a video store. It's a great movie.

I always enjoyed going to the drive-in, especially when in High School ;). Knowing what goes on there, I was kind of glad they all started closing down before my daughters got to be teenagers.
