SUGGESTED HOTEL:
Unfortunately, they only give discounts when getting 10 rooms or more. We're not quite large enough for the discount this year since ~80% of us are from KC :( Brad and Andy both liked this hotel, and it is close to the festivities.
http://www.daysinn.com/DaysInn/control/Booking/property_info?propertyId=13790&brandInfo=DI&cid=%EAid!
BBQ: Shawnee Mission Park
Site #7 was reserved thanks to Danny: 8am-2pm 7 tables, 2 grills, near restrooms (500 ft), NW corner of the lake
JUNE 6
Drive to KC!!!
5:00 = Meet at the Days Inn in the link above. Feel free to call me if you get lost. We'll have the usual BS Session while everybody checks in. Bring your chairs!!
6:20-6:30 = Hand out maps, and discuss driving policies for the meet
(We'll collect food money after this for tomorrow's grilling)
6:30-7:30 = Grab a quick bite to eat. Probably fast food
7:30-Close = Drag racing at KCIR for those interested
(Otherwise, BS Session)
(A few of us will go buy food after this for the next day)
JUNE 7
(The BS Day)
10:30-2:00 = Grill lunch and BS at Shawnee Mission Park
2:00-Whenever = Take pictures and drive around the park
6:20-7:30 = Cruise to some scenic location for pictures.
7:30 = Dinner (We'll decide on this earlier in the day and MAKE RESERVATIONS THIS TIME!)
8:00 = Go BS at hotel parkinglot.
JUNE 8
(We'll play the 8th by ear as people have to leave to get back home.)
Who's Comming:
Ryan [I'll goto the track if my shiz isn't broke]
Andy [No intentions of non-bench racing... Depends how Jason acts]
Duane [Doesn't want to make us look bad with the 600hp Taurus]
Danny [Racing! Bring it on!]
Michael [Michael always races]
Sam 007 Supercoupe [Probably won't race]
Jim [The Dakota would slaughter the birds @ the track]
Brad [Jesus that's a big motor!]

4th of July Weekend is probably out for alot of people cuz of the holiday.
June 20-22 is out for me cuz that's my dad's birthday. And there will be a weekend in July that will be out since I'll be headed to Minneapolis.
I'm not sure of the dates right off hand, but early June is Hot Rod Power Tour.
Racing doesn't matter to me. It's usually hot in June and July so I figure I'll run like crap if I go. I'm not stopping from anyone else from going - but just saying I don't have the intention of racing. I'd be up for a BBQ, maybe a cruise - but with some rules set up ahead of time and an easy route to follow. Photoshoot is always good - with some locations setup ahead of time to keep us from driving around like mad :p Bench (or trailer) racing is always good.

How about doing some sort of catered event? Maybe KFC, Smoke House, Subway/Good Cents or something else. Once a date, location and type of food is decided, then for everyone attending, money will be due 2 months out from that date.
Oh, I'm good to go any date that is decided upon.

12-30-2007, 11:01 PM
Hmm... I like the idea, but what do we do to account for the people who wind up comming that don't post? I dont' want to alienate anyone by not having enough food for em'.
Nettlesd
12-31-2007, 11:53 AM
How would they know about the event without knowing about the post? Once it's decided that the event is catered, then if they learn about the event from another person (without viewing this post) then that person should tell them that the event is catered and they have to turn in some money by a certain time frame.
2TonCat
12-31-2007, 12:03 PM
People that don't read the post and decide to come until the day before.... I did this in 06 when I first showed up.
People that 'aren't comming' and then show up because they figgure out they can (tyler).
The one random person we flag down to come join us when we're at custards (has happened every time)
I don't know. Just a thought.
Nettlesd
12-31-2007, 12:41 PM
Well then, we account for X number of extra people and split the cost across the number of people who are paying. I'm sure we can figure something out if we decide to go this route.

Don't plan the event around our timeframes. Pick a date that say, has a car show scheduled somewhere to attend. VTC? (or some other event everyone would enjoy) Then plan the meet around that. Then we can plan for the meet ourselves.
You're right, if we cater there won't be food for extras but, if we cook out somewhere there will be plenty for everyone.
Cruising around KC is out as far as I'm concerned. You guys can do that at night.
The track should be a mandatory event! A thought though....do we have fire retardant jackets to use?

What does everyone else thing about just setting a date this time? Should we set one perminantly for this meet? Like 2nd weekend of july?
I'll be at KCIR before this meet hits, so I'll see if I can pass one of my normal jackets off as fire retardant.
Kurt K
01-02-2008, 09:45 AM
In my experience setting up meets in St Louis, you will never be able to accomodate everyone. So, like it's already been said, pick a date around some event and be done with it. Of course, it would be nice to pick something that works for the majority of the local people. Everything else will fall into place.

June 6-8 works for me.... and every OTHER weekend after that. (Unless I get a good ol' fashioned Mon-Fri 9-5er before then ;) )
As far as events.... I love to eat, barbeque is good (I mean it IS Kansas City after all!!) I'd love to go to the races, but do we really need a fire retardent jacket? We can race at MoKan without even a helmet (unless your car dips below 13:00) Cruising sounds great, and of course a photoshoot.... Ok, I'll just say I'm up for whatever happens..

Last time I was @ KCIR & I was reading the next year notes, The Jackets were required for "forced induction" cars.
007_SuperCoupe
01-08-2008, 02:45 PM
That time of the year is already filling up significantly for me. The weekends I CANNOT attend are:
June 13-15 and June 20-22: Boy Scout's Summer Camp (My son it one)
July 4-6: for obvious reasons
July 11-13: Annual local car show that I plan on attending
July 25-27: Boy Scout's High Adventure Trip
So I'm basically available only for 4 weekends out of that time period. If it's on an open weekend, great, if not, hope to make it next year.
PS I'm planning on this being my one travel to event of the year...
As for activities, I'm not at all into racing really. That's a lot of stuff that I need to purchase that I don't currently have. (I thought the jackets were required for vehicles that had an aftermarket supercharger...factory superchargers were exempt...but that's just what I heard a couple years ago...) A BBQ would be cool (maybe at an area park where we can "rent" a pavilion and have ample parking around it...hence the photo shoot too.. :) Catering food won't really work too well because of the last minute people. A show-n-shine car show would be nice, but not needed. As for the cruise, I think simply planning it around events is what should be done... i.e. BBQ at the park...cruise from hotel location to park, eat, photo shoot, cruise back to hotel area. Something like that. It simplifies the process by combining a couple things together. What I like about these things is the ability to just sit and chill. I don't want this to be like a shootout with lots of scheduled things to keep you busy. I like being able to drop the lawn chair down, pop a few cold ones and just get to know my fellow enthusiasts from the region. That's what we did a couple years ago and I really liked it. Man, we had a lot of 600 hp beasts in attendance that year!
Anyway, planners make a plan. If it works, I'm planning on being there with the SC. It looks better than it did 2 years ago... :)

Any thought on this? The sooner a date is set, the sooner we can start getting time off from work :p

Hehe... Paint it matte black with two clearcoated red stripes down the middle. Then get chrome rims. Baller on the cheap :)
The SuperStang idea is still interesting to me....
Take a 94/95 v6 5-speed with a blown motor
Pull blown motor out
Buy supercoupe motor
Put motor mounts and flywheel on supercoupe motor
Put 95 front cover, reluctor wheel, and HB on SC Motor
Get EDIS unit for it out of 98 ranger v6
Put motor in mustang
Plumb intercooler
Wire megasquirt in
Tune it
Baller status on the $$$

(I get to stop arguements and fights almost everyday) Just let this thread go back to planning our summer events (and planning this far in advance is one of the better ideas I've heard in a while). Stop placing blame, waving dicks, telling others to STFU, and go to hell. Just let it end without comment.

The HotRod Power Tour will be in Topeka on Monday, June 9th, and then move up to Lincoln on the 10th. Maybe an event June 7-8 would be good, and then for those who want to, could make a stop or two of the Power Tour? Just a thought.

Tyler, Melon is doing it RIGHT. Not leaving home when he's 18 so he can be swallowed up in debt. No responsibility?! HA! He actually KEEPS his cars for more than a couple months (all 4 of them). Haven't you lost like 3 cars cause you haven't made the payments? You talk about priorities, but what are they? Modding your sc (exhaust, tips, etc)? You're eating ramen because you CHOOSE to. Period.

You've gotta understand Jason. We give him more crap than anyone here. To him, words are just words. When he (and the rest of us really) give you crap, just take it as that, and don't get soo hurt about it. What others say shouldn't matter to you anyway -- Just what you think of yourself.
I've gotta agree and disagree with Jason on this one. It wasn't cool to make plans with Matt, and then turn around and change them at the last minute... Or do the same with duane as well..... Money was an issue this time and typically is with these things... Nothing to do with being pussy wipped though.... I'm not tyler, and I cant speak for his financial situation. I see two things -- He's inquiring into things he can't afford, but he isn't buying them & his girlfriend who is living with him just bought a new car which she probably puts all of her paychecks towards. What's that tell you about living expenses? When is it time to call THE SWS to pimp slap her into thinking straight and buying a ~~~~ING USED CAR?? I do disagree with Jason though... Don't remember her being that bad looking.

i can drown tyler
This is a great opportunity to demonstrate punctuation and inflection. We don't know what was meant... Was it:
"I can drown, Tyler", meaning "Tyler, I can't do that as I could drown in the pool"
or did you mean:
"I can drown Tyler!", as in "Hey everyone, this is a great chance to drown Tyler!"
With no inflection in a typed message, punctuation becomes even more important. :D

u can put me down for racing. :D i'll have the DOHC by then, and i wanna crawl a lil closer to the top of that list ;)

Yeah... That DOHC car... With that converter... Probably would be in the 13s. You should trade Joel for 4.10s though.

I don't think the DOHC would be "crawling" toward the top (more like "leaping"). And (just my opinion) but if it'll be a daily driver I'd go no higher than 3.73's.

LOL Not "Chicken", just Practical. The 4.10's would be harder on the car, and harder on his gas budget, thereby limiting the number of meets he could attend. ;):D

I disagree that gears are harder on the cars. But... Harder on the wallet? Yes. Absolutely.
351cat
02-13-2008, 04:23 PM
I think i'll be keeping the 3.73's, not that 4.10 would be bad, but like mike said, i like fuel mileage. :) i mean look what i got out of a carb'd 351w :D I'd like a fuel injected v8 with 70 less cubes, but 16 more valves to get at least the same or better. I'll have the SCT tuner, and may invest in a Megasquirt if i get ambitious. Plus i can get a cobra intake and some "special" cams and be pushing 350+ hp with N/A for about 1200 bucks. :) It'll be fun. i cant wait.
On a side note, what is the overdrive ratio in the 4R? is it .67 like the AOD? just wanna check some rpm vs speed numbers. and also, if the trans doesnt have the tailshaft mod, should i do it w/ the 3.73's? its got an external trans cooler, i know that.

yuppers, just as soon as i can get the gas to drive to stl. to meet him halfway. he wants the 5 speed pushrod v8 and i want the dohc. we're gonna do an even trade. I also have to have the money to license it...

Couple things....
You'll want 4.10s. The 4vs are power deficient below about 4000rpms. You'd likely get better gas mileage around town with gears. The extra 500rpms at 70 (Vs 3.27s) isn't anything to moan about.
The X-cal is nice for datalogging, but tuning it doesn't do. Megasquirting isn't an option unless you want to swap a 5-speed in there. If it were, I'd have done it in a heartbeat.
Unless you're talking crank numbers or nitrous, I don't think it'll see 350hp n/a for $1200, but if you do, sign me up.
The 4r is .7
It very likely has the force lube mod if Alan did the trans.

I was talking crank numbers... :) and yeah, i guess i still have pushrod on the mind, low rpms and what not, lol. If i come across some 4.10's cheap enough, i'll prolly do it. I know joel has some, maybe he'd trade, lol. Nitrous is prolly gonna happen, albeit a tiny amount to start with. And by tuning, i meant datalogging, then sending off for a tune :) the xcal will hook up to a laptop like you were doing right? I'm such a noob w/ the electronic tuning stuff, lol. The car also has 18's on it, but im not sure what size tire, it looks like they're prolly about the same size as yours, so w/ 4.10s you turn ~2500 at 70? my 3.27s were right around 2k. I did like how yours behaved w/ the 4.10s, i dunno, all i wanna do right now is get it home, lol.

Amen brotha! Get that sucka! I'll help you with the details later.
X-cal is what I have
2500rpms with 4.10s at 70. 255/45/18s
Get a Nano nitrous kit. You'll be low 12s.

ryan the x-cal does tuning for the engine also but you have to have a tune installed on it. I know cause my buddy who owns the dyna pack dyno sells them.

The x-cal allows flashing the stock comput with pre-programmed tunes from a pro-racer package. The X-cal only allows very minor adjustments on the actual device.
thunderbird96
02-13-2008, 10:42 PM
you must have the first gen model cause the x-cal2 well let you do anything you want. I know cause i was a wintness to several cars at his shop
adjust for gear and tire size changs
timing
fuel map
shift points /firmness
top speed limiter removal or adjustment
same with rev limiter
turn o2's off
change a/f ratios
data log
check trouble codes
plus many other things.
2TonCat
02-13-2008, 10:54 PM
The tuning software you have to purchase separately allows you to do that. You can either get the "Pro Racer Package" or a dealer package that lets you tune other people's cars too. An X-cal alone has neither license, and can do nothing more than datalog, or flash pre-made tunes. I have the most recent model of the X-cal.

Lets get some plans started guys.
DATES PICKED--
JUNE 6
(Events go here)
Drive to KC!!!
5:00 = Good meeting time since everyone is usually off work
6:20-6:30 = Hand out maps, and discuss driving policies for the meet
6:30-7:30 = Grab a quick bite to eat. Probably fast food
7:30-Close = Drag racing at KCIR for those interested
JUNE 7
(Events go here)
???? What do you guys want to do for breakfast ????
12:30-4:30 = Grill lunch and BS in the park (Swap Meet???)
4:30-before sunest = Cruise
Sunset = Photoshoot somewhere pretty
End of sunset = Cruise to some parkinglot to BS more
???? Need more input for dinner ????
JUNE 8
(Events go here)
Thinking about this a little bit. Friday night - lets have the "drivers meeting" where ever we're going to eat. Which means, we gotta pick a place. Let's make it somewhere easy to find and maybe semi-close to anything else we may do that evening. What else is going on that Friday night for those of us who don't want to go to the track?
Saturday looks good. When it gets closer, maybe start a thread for those with parts available - I realize there is a few threads floating around - but start one when it gets close so it's all in one thread and not floating around in 3-4 different places.
No idea for Sunday except maybe a "see ya later breakfast" if anyone wants to get up heh.

Also.. other things to consider...
- Bring 2 way radio's. It'll make it easier to stay in contact when traveling from Point A to Point B. Especially if some of us get lost. Even if all of us don't one - have them spread out along the line.
- This has been said before, I'll stay it again... When we are driving from place to place and we're in a line - no bigger dick contests. Drive reasonable -like we're in a parade. Call me crazy, but if I see a line of MN12's driving like fumb duckers down the street, I wouldn't want to be associated with them.
- Cell phones - I'm fairly sure that between all of us, we can contact each other.
- Maps - Map of various locations with easy to read directions from a known central point.. Directions from the interstate, or common road in case we do get lost.
Agenda - I think we kinda tried for that at the meet in February, but you can see how well that worked. So perhaps a 2nd try will be more successful. Ryan has a good start on it - just a few potential blanks to fill.
Overall, I don't care what we do - just as long as we have fun. That's the idea of it. For some of us, it's an opportunity to get away from the every day grind :D And before we know it, June is going to be here.

Make sure you are up on your shots. When Chris (SWS) starts humping your leg you never know what he'll leave behind.
Just to reiterate what Melon said, some of you guys don't know what a caravan is. It's the leader of the pack to make sure everyone is still following. That may include slowing the pace or pulling over and waiting for everyone to make it through the lights and not after you lose someone (hint..hint Ryan/Joel).

And yes, at the dinner meet last October, we did very well. Ryan was the lead car with me behind. But another advantage - a good part of us knew where we were going. That makes a difference - hence why I'd like to see atleast some rough directions or something so if it does happen, those who aren't sure can atleast have a half ~~~ idea where they should be headed.
