Now this is interesting. Actually, annoying as all ****, but ..... well, read on and see for yourself.

Went out with the car last night, arrived at my destination, shut off the car and ..... the headlights stay on. Then I also notice that the hi beam indicator is on. I check the headlight switch and it's off as well as the high beams.

Note that I stated that I shut off the car. As in the key is out of the ignition cylinder. No key and the lights are ON.

I put the key back in, start the car, check the lights and it's all ****ed up. Shut the car off, key out and ..... headlights are still on, high beam indicator is still on, the DRL/low/high beam operation is not proper.

Okay, i'm not sticking around, get in the car and drive home. I need to resort to disconnecting the battery for the lights to turn off.

So far I have checked the headlight switch for proper operation and it checks out okay. I do the same thing with the multi function switch and it, too, checks out fine. When I check the connector for the headlight switch, however, it fails one of the tests, which means I now have to check for a short in one of the circuits. OH GREAT! That's my favouritestiest thing to do in winter!!!!!!

Anyway, before I tear into it I figured I run this by y'all and see what input any of you have. I figure my DRL control module (which seems to be a pitfa to get to) is the culprit.

Anyone have anything they want to share that may help?

Hey man, good to hear from u. As you stated, it looks like your DRL module may have bit the dust. A bypass is very cheap, as I got one for the SC.

I miss the ole days when we joked around.

Daytime running lights default [ some of them anyway ] to on, you can unplug the actual module on some vehicles and everything goes back to normal function except you will have no DTRL ..Canada , its manditory.
The high beam indictor light locked on is most likely the warning light that the DTRL system is screwed up .
Borrow a module from someone and try it before you start digging into the wiring harness looking for shorts.
Good luck.
Dave.

Perhaps it's a delay system. I know with my Chryslers, if i turn off the car BEFORE turning off the headlights, they will stay on for a minute or so and then extinguish. I believe it's marketed as a personal safety feature to allow you to get into your house under light if it's dark outside.

Did Ford offer this as an LX option?

Just to clarify, it's mandatory when the cars are sold in Canada from 1990 on, and also when importing a vehicle. But the Highway Traffic Act does NOT mandate DRLs, they can be bypassed for road use. F0FZ 14489 A is the Ford p.n. for the bypass connector, it plugs in where the DRL module would, and completes the other circuits there. About $8 wholesale.

My '95 has the headlight off delay on it. Had one instance when the lights didnt shut off, but it resolved itself. I am pretty sure his LX has that same option.
Nice to here from you. You gonna make the meet on Saturday?

Ya, that is true Ed, kind of screwed up isn't it, it has to have one to be sold originally in Canada but not to operate??..
Also I have been told the manufacturers have to sell the vehicle with two red lights at the rear, but only one has to work.
And the government does not understand why we do not trust them... LOL ..
Dave.

Sorry I haven't updated sooner everyone. Things have been crazy lately.

I got under the car, stuffed a long skinny arm under the front, reached around and unplugged the DRL connector.

SPLASH!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Yeah, that was my even more-er favourite-er-est part. Apparently the DRL module can double as a fish bowl and/or windshield wiper fluid reserve.

Anyway, lights function, more or less, normal now. No DRLs, but who cares?!?!??! THANKS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Saved me a ton of BS. Funny, the EVTM was gonna have me check this circuit, that diode, then re-build the rear end!!!! :p :D ;) :o :)

No delay lights on this car. They weigh too much! :p :D ;) :)
