Apparently they work extremely well on the Ford 8.8" available for 28 and 31 spline axles. This is similar to what is found on Audis and you never have to worry about clutches again. They are listed in the FRPP catalogue.

Torsen Differential
We are proud to offer both the Torsen T-2 and Torsen T-2R rear differentials to our customers. Torsen's TORSEN T-2 and T-2R Traction Differential are ideally suited for front wheel, center box, or C-Clip rear axle applications. The patented EQUVEX™ parallel axis gear configuration provides better management of gear mesh separation forces, resulting in low backlash and quiet operation. In addition, long side gear lengths permit more flexibility in axle spline positions.

Unlike conventional speed sensing, limited-slip differentials, TORSEN T-2 is a full-time torque-sensing, torque biasing system. Torque and differentiation are continuously managed between the two axles and biased instantaneously according to variable road conditions. There are no clutches or preload to worry about, in fact, the TORSEN T-2's patented parallel gearing system is designed to perform for the life of the vehicle.

We currently carry the Torsen T-2 and T-2R for the applications listed below.

Which Torsen is right for you? If you're car is either street drive or a dual purpose car (street driven and open track) then the T-2 will work for you. If you have an IRS equipped Mustang or your car is used exclusively for track use then the T-2R is right for you. The main difference between the two types is that the T-2R has a higher bias and is equipped with preload. This is an excusive feature of the T-2R and is not available in any other gear type differential.

T-2 Differential (For Ford 8.8 IRS or solid axles) - $475

The TORSEN T-2 is an advanced, multi-function traction differential, providing continuous, uninterrupted torque output, torque biasing and differentiation in one integral unit. It is always active, responding instantly to torque feedback from variable driving conditions.

ENHANCED PERFORMANCE
The TORSEN T-2's capability to immediately respond to variable driving conditions not only provides better traction, it also enhances the general performance of a vehicle. There is a marked improvement in total tractive effort as compared to open or conventional limited-slip differential equipped vehicles. In addition, the exceptional efficiency of the T-2 allows the engine's torque output to be used more effectively, delivering more horsepower to the road. The combined improvement in traction and the augmented power results in a nimble yet sure-footed vehicle that provides better handling, increased acceleration and an improved margin of safety.

TORQUE BIAS
Designed for today's modern front wheel drive vehicles, the TORSEN T-2 design is also suitable for C-Clip rear axles. It features lower backlash for quiet operation and longer durability. Other TORSEN T-2 advantages include straddle transfer gear design allowing better management of gear mesh separation forces and long side gear lengths for flexibility in axle spline positions. In addition, the number of planet gears can be increased or decreased, based upon system strength requirements.

Denis,

After chating with you last night about this I did some reading on the net at diffent differentials I like the looks of the Detroit Truetrac not sure yet how much diffent it is from the torsen As both work in the same way the only thing I can see is that cost with the truetrac coming in at less then the torsen unit.

Again it was nice meeting you Denis last night

It was a real pleasure to meet the club members last night. Great group of dedicated car guys.

I still need to do more research on this but I believe that both units are very similar. I saw the Torsen listed at $475 and I thought the TT is priced in that ball park.

The TRue Track has been out for over 2 years for Lightnings with many guys putting out 700-900hp, drag racing with slicks. I have never heard of a single failure.

Let's exchange info. I'm very interested in this.

Talked to a buddy with an 03 Cobra and he's also interested.

A Truetrac can be found for 380 US or 500 in canada +tax. I'm thinking about the 380 US and picking it up done there.

The onlything I have read bad so far about the T2 is two guys have had problems with them after drag racing that could have to do with something eles and not the unit it self. I think both would do the job I know I need to do something if i'm going to drag race and open track the car this summer.

Redfox you go me looking in to all kinds of parts now for the bird.

I have this in a box in my closet along with 3.55 gears to be installed after I do my 4R70W swap.

My friend has the T2R on his Merkur XR4Ti that has the factory IRS with a 8.8" supercoupe pumpkin swap.

He loves it, and doesn't shut up about how well it works. For his car, it nearly eliminated any wheel hop.

Yeah the T2-R differentiates itself by having some pre-load on it. Its most likely a little harder on tires. Wonder if there are any other drawbacks?

"Torsen T2R

Torsen's T2R RaceMaster Traction Differentials are ideally suited for rear wheel drive, truck, SUV, C-Clip, and high performance applications. The patented EQUVEX™ parallel axis gear configuration provides better management of gear separation forces resulting in low backlash and quiet operation.
Unlike conventional speed-sensing, limited slip differentials, TORSEN T2-R is a full time torque sensing, torque biasing system. Torque and differentiation are continuously managed between the two axles and biased instantaneously according to variable road conditions. TORSEN T2R's patented parallel gearing system is designed to perform for the life of the vehicle.

The addition of preloading to the TORSEN T2R allows the differential to remain locked, providing torque to both wheels under low torque inputs. This allows improved mobility and traction under extreme conditions. TORSEN T2R can be built with or without clutches which allows the Torque Bias Ratio (TBR) to be tailored to individual needs. In addition, it is compatible with electronic traction control, providing the ultimate in traction management systems.

MULTIFUNCTION CAPABILITIES
The TORSEN T2R is an advanced multifunction traction differential providing continuous, uninterrupted torque output, torque biasing, and differentiation in one integral unit. Since it is preloaded, it is capable of remaining locked with low torque inputs, enhancing traction and mobility under extreme split µ conditions. It is always active, responding instantly to torque feedback from variable driving conditions.

ENHANCED AND COMPETITIVE PERFORMANCE
The TORSEN T2R's capability to immediately respond to variable road conditions not only provides better traction, it also enhances the general performance of a vehicle. There is a marked improvement in total tractive effort as compared to open or conventional limited-slip differential equipped vehicles. In addition, the exceptional efficiency of the T2R allows the engine's torque output to be used more effectively, delivering more horsepower to the road. The combined improvement in traction and the augmented power results in a nimble yet sure-footed vehicle that provides better handling, increased acceleration and an improved margin of safety.

T-2R APPLICATIONS
Due to the preload springs, the TORSEN T-2R will stay locked with low torque inputs. This allows the vehicle to maintain drive, and thus momentum and mobility, during extreme conditions such as inside wheel spin or lift in a corner, or starting from a complete stop on split µ grade. When the ring gear torque overcomes the preload, the unit will differentiate and bias normally, behaving like a conventional Torsen T-2. This is particularly useful to drivers who compete in road racing and autocrossing, as well as drivers of unladed pickup trucks, or SUVs who have to deal with poor weather conditions, or an occasional off-road trail, or for anyone who wants the best traction possible for their street car. The current applications for the TORSEN T-2R include the Ford 8.8 inch axle, the GM 8.5 inch axle, and the GM 7.6 inch axle."
