Hey moody moodz yeah you can replace the antenna with an universal antenna. I wouldn't recommend getting a real cheap one because they won't even last a year (atleast thats what happened to my friend when he bought a cheap ant). A Metra Anteanna are decent antenna, i am not sure of the exact model number but i do know that there is a "22" at the end, this is the new and modified antenna..

well i am not sure of the cost of things, in the east coast, but $60 sounds reasonable... You might want to ask them what name brand it is, just to be in the safe side....

I found a stock antenna in my local boneyard for 15 bucks! Remove the tire, fenderwell(very easy), collar nut on top, one bolt at the antenna, antenna cable, and one plug-in. All this took about one hour honestly. I have never had good quality with aftermarket antennas. I would go stock.

I would replace it with a boneyard antenna as well. With the universal antenna, you will have a problem with the ford ant. cable and the uni ant. cable - they don't match up very well.
Here's a pic of the shop manual install- good luck!
