Hey Guys and Gals
Its a snowy day and I though I would post a few pics of our trip to the AirForce Museum at Wright-Patterson AFB outside of Dayton, Ohio. We visited during the 2007 SHOOTOUT http://www.sc-shootout.com/, and it was a highlight of the trip. We didnt do the Museum justice with the time we spent, but it was well worth it. Go to the Museum link for a real tour of the place. The pics are amazing, and much better than mine.

Thanks for posting those up, Matt. You are correct, we did the very quick tour, it would be easy to spend 8 hours there. Out on the grounds there are some more planes exhibited that we didn't look at.
cheers

GAWWWWWWWWWWWD I LOVE THAT PLACE!!!!!
I was there a few years ago and we spent the entire day there. We were camping and early for the Ford meet so we went back a second day as well. Also did the ANNEX tour at the other side of the air field (they take you by bus) and saw the Stealth Fighter, Johnsons plane and many others.
(eight hours is not enough there Ed, if you are a plane buff like me)
I would highly recommend the Museum to anyone travelling to Dayton.

Sweet! That F-117 looks like it has seen better days! I hope those ICBM's don't have the nuclear warheads in them anymore lol. Looks interesting I would love to goto a place like that or the SAC museum.

has anyone ever been to both the SAC museum in Nebraska AND this USAF museum? Just wondering what one would be better if I was going to pick one!

I went to the USAF Museum last weekend. Got many pics.
Lighting is dark in the exhibits and I was only using my SD600 with no tripod. So some of the pics are blurry. I had the ISO up to 400 and so they might be a little grainy as well. I didn't want to use a flash because it's not good at these distances and it would have wasted needed battery life. Anyway you have been warned.
Anyway I'll start with the WWII area. I don't know as much about WWII planes as I do modern jets but I'll try.
One of the early Wright(?) brothers planes. Powered by a 30 some-odd HP 4 cylinder.

This is a German V-2 Missile. I guess it's one of the first ballistic Missiles IIRC the range was about 200 miles. Advanced stuff for the time I'm sure.

Now into the next complex. This is the "modern" area.
A B52 "Stratofortress" bomber basically designed to carry multiple nuclear bombs long distances without refueling. My in front for size.

The F-22 Raptor. Modern stealth fighter jet. This thing is actually much bigger than most modern fighters and much bigger then I would have expected from seeing it in movies and pictures.
