if it's just the pulley, there four bolts and it's off. electric fan'll have to come off and the J/S and main drive belts removed. loosen up the bolts first a couple of threads with the main acessory drive belt on to keep the pulley from turning. when i replaced mine w/an aluminum 10%OD unit, well, it was done in about 5 minutes and thats with drinking a beer during the process!!

I doubt very much that the pulley is broken. It's likely the harmonic balancer that the pulley is bolted to. A new balancer will run you between 4 and 5 hundred and depending on where the old one broke it may or may not be easy to relace. The bolt (one large one) that holds the balancer to the crank shaft have a tendancy to break. That's really what is likely the problem and there again it depends on where the break is as to how hard it will be to relpace the bolt. If you look for a used balancer, try and get the pulley with it because they are weight balanced as a pair if I'm not mistaken.
Whatever it is that's broken, you can fix it for well under $1000 but it'll take some elbow greese on your part.

If you do a search in the main tech. forum, or check out similar threads shown at the bottom of this one, you will get some more info on the various methods for this repair.

Just FYI, $569 + taxes is the best I can do on a new OEM Ford replacement damper, they come with the pulley. Probably makes more sense to go with the upgraded steel BHJ unit, for less than $400 US.
