It says 88 SC, but it shows info on 89.
Anyway, 225 seems a little high  as a top speed.

I like the drag coefficient though. As good as some Ferarris. :D

225 is in KMH, equivalent to 140 MPH.
They put all the other standard conversions along with the metric, dunno why they didn't with top speed.

I saw the metric stuff listed for the other specs, but didn't see it on top speed. I guess I wasn't paying attention. ;) Won't be the last time.

If someone can tell me the diameter of a stock tire in inches, I made a program to list speeds at a given rpm with given axle ratios. I have a chart, but it was with a guess of a 25" tire over several axle ratios.

for 225/60-16's I came up with 26.62992125984252 inches from some wheel/tire website if that helps... lol

Dave, don't worry I don't pay attention a lot as well... wait, what were we talking about? ;)

I did it during physics class to help pass the time. Damn college physics 1.

Lets See

With my SC with the right gear ratio could go 325mph or 350mph at Bonneville what you think? what is the production car speed record at Bonneville? I think its 298mph or 300mph by the Banks Turbo Firebird

A friend of mine, Lawson Bilhardt, ran 190.20769 mph in a '90 5-speed Super Coupe. He did this 9/12/07 at Bonneville in a meet sancationed by the Utah Salt Flat Racing Association. USFRA shows the current record for that class to be 214.755 mph.

He couldn't gain additional speed at Bonneville because he was having handling problems at 190 with the small tires he was running on the front. He plans to be back next year

Lawson is a regular with his SC at Maxton, NC events. He runs in the 175 mph range with his SC on that old runway.

Jim,

Your SC doesn't have nearly enough power to run those speeds....I'd be surprised if you could break 200 mph without doing some serious aerodynamic work.

I think your right! The size of the car the weight the aero effects the power but it would be neat to try to get into the 200mph Club. I always had the thought wondering with the right gearing what she could do at Bonneville

The last time I looked the stock bodied class the Bonneville SC ran in record was around 256 MPH held by a Pontiac Trans Am TA Turbo.

Making power over a multi mile-run is quite a bit different than making it for 10 seconds. The Bonneville SC had handling problems as well due to front end lift even with a NASCAR front end installed. It still met class rules since at that time you could buy a NASCAR style front end from Motortsports. It went 205 MPH and change to set the record in 1992.

It also ran a 2:73 rear end with a special M5R2 with a .60 OD and still was turning 6k during the run.

Also weight isn't actually the issue. The cars are often weighted to increase traction since the high speed tires are so narrow. The Bonneville ran with a fuel cell (obviously) but still had its stock fuel tank installed filled with water and ran with weight plates in the trunk too.

Thats great info thanks, question? you remember the 90 SC with the blown Boss 429 AR Hemi that set the record in his class at Bonneville? I am not sure if it was a real SC body car or tube chassies car. I think the name was Leggitt or something cant find anything on it

Trying to find the other site that shows the Mark VIII breaking 200mph.
