Speedo OK.......Odometer Broke. Any Ideas?

My 94 SC speedo indicates OK but the odo won't move. Stopped at 109,121. Pulled it out and gave it a visiual inspection. Nothing appeared loose or jammed. And of course there is a piece of plastic right next to the odo motor that prevents removal or repair. Re-installed the speedo and drove it. Intiallly tried to move about .2 miles but then stopped. Noticed a large capacitor next to the odo motor. Suspect I need to replace it to give the odo motor a kick to start running. After 14 years, I suspect the cap is tired.

Anyone one else had this problem, and if so, how did you fix it other then get another speedo?

It is a common problem. You need to replace the gear in the speedo unit. It drives the odometer but not the speedometer. You can find more in this thread over at TCCoA.
