Hey all.

I've got a problem w/ my stock radio (base am/fm cassette) It's not in my cougar, but it's the exact same type of radio that was in my cougar, it's the factory unit in my 95 Escort. Anyway, anytime i listen to the radio, i get a high pitch squeal/whine noise. I've encountered alternator whine before, and this is different. The noise stays at a constant pitch and is present at any RPM or with the engine off for that matter. It's also present on any FM radio station. It does it on all the speakers too. It's annoying as hell and i cant figure out what it is...

TIA,
Brad

No knowledge of sterios....

My friend had a b!tch'n camaro though, and it had a ground issue... Though, the whine increased in pitch as the rpms increased. Sounded like he had some funky ~~~ supercharger.

Can you trade head units with the cougar easily to see if its the HU?

I had this wierd constant pitch as well but it came from my front speakers.

All I did was move and clean my ground to better position and problem solved.

thanks for the replys guys. I'll mess around with my grounds and see if i can get it to go away. The car has been quite abused its whole life, so who knows lol.

Does it do it with a cassette in? Could the cassette motor be running without one in it? Sounds like some type of feedback from the unit.

get this. i had a frayed constant power wire running against the antenna cable... wrapped up and re-routed the power wires away from the antenna and no more noise... crazy huh? Thanks for the suggestions, which led me to check the wiring. Thought i'd let you all know what it was. :)
