View Full Version : Tuning with Dave Dalke this spring in Ohio

I have been speaking with Dave via email, I will be in need of a new tune with my new setup this spring on the car. Dave is pretty tied up with his many commitments, so he has suggested that May 17th if I came down we could tackle this. The drive is not to far, we could take off from TO around 6pm on a friday night, and be there before 11. He asked that I start seeing if there is any other interest in those up here who would come down to get a tune, he has a local dyno for tuning. Im sure we could all pile into 1 or 2 hotel rooms close by for a night, or 2 nights, depending on how late things go Saturday. Anyways lets get the ball rolling here and figure stuff out, Ed if you could make this sticky if you see fit.

Thanks
Bruce

Have you made a decision on the Dayton Spring meet yet?My schedule wont allow me to make it, but the 17th of May looks good. Hoping I have a S/C to tune by then.

Some things have changed since we first tossed this idea around. Turns out Jerry W. will be at the shop on the 17th and will be handling tuning duties that day. I will be participating but this will be a chance to have the best of the best tune your car so that's that.

I have contacted Thompson Raceway about fitting in with their Sunday program but no response yet so I'm not sure if we'll be able to go to the track or not at this point.

I have chips available, single and multi program ranging from $250 for a single program to $350 for multi programs. Tuning costs will be $200/car (includes dyno time) if you already have a chip or if you are buying a chip then it will be $100/car in addition to the chip cost.

Dave, Will I still be able to purchase a snow kit off you and install it when we come down? I want to add the snow kit, mp tensioner springs and a 10% pulley to the blower, had thought of coming down friday night and doing the install of this on saturday, but not sure if thats still possible?

XR7 Dave
04-23-2008, 05:44 PM
I have committments for most all day Friday and Saturday. If you want to work on your car on Friday the shop will be available to you but I will be busy most of the day. However, we can at least work into the evening if necessary. I do not think that working on the car on Saturday will be very productive.

T1Bird
04-23-2008, 06:03 PM
Hey Dave,

The guys and I had planned on driving down Friday, evening, but If i came down in the afternoon that way in the evening I could install the snow kit and MP tensioner springs at your place would that be ok? if not ill have to find a place that sells the snow kit up here and buy it here and install it, just would rather buy it from you and let you make the buck off it then someone else, l just looked at them in the summit catalog and Im not sure what I need to buy, just the stage 2 kit for 87and up MAF ford cars? let me know when you get time.

Hey Matt,

I just sent a email off to Dave on some costs for my snow kit as well as a hotel number close by so we can book rooms, I could care less about being on a bed or a floor if we all want to pitch in and save $$$ on a room,

Who is all looking at staying, right now Im looking at staying friday night at least. heading down friday afternoon say taking off around 1 pm.

ALS35
04-24-2008, 09:17 PM
Bruce;
I'm in for staying. Leaving early should work for me as well, seeing as I don't have a clue where we're going. We should book for saturday night as well because saturday could be a long day. And if we are getting tuned by the best and the best it doesn't pay to rush a craftsman.
Oh ya ... my old bones like to sleep on something softer than the floor. Even a lazy boy would be better than a hard floor.

I'm still in... Any room for tuning on Sunday? Bruce if I made it down early enough I would definatley like to help out install the snow kit, wouldn't mind seeing how it installs.

Ed-The balancer is pretty easy to install, I made up a tool with threaded rod and huge washers that works as a removeal tool. Do you still come up North? I could lend it to you if you need it. Otherwise I could get it over to Andrew to bring it over to your place.

I would go across the Queenston/Lewiston Bridge (exits left 405 right after the skyway bridge) instead of the Peace bridge way less traffic and no toll charge when you go into the US.(there still is when you come back into Canada though)

What route will you be taking cause perhaps I can meet up at Stony Creek with you. I have no prob sleeping on the floor either at a motel.

Of course my car got tuned by the best.... and thats me :D:p:eek::p.... just need a dyno to finish it LOL! j/k Honestly, I don't really need a tune so I won't take a slot if someone else needs it. I just want a run on the dyno to check my numbers.

Really trying to push that Moates product huh....:D

In some ways yeah ;) because its an alternative that so far has proven to work and is alot cheaper than the SCT stuff for us poor folk, especially since I'm doing my own tuning.

But there is also several things I've figured out in the code of the EEC that could make tuning a bit easier or possibly even allow a bit more optimizing so to speak, and with Dave's tuning experience it can be verified. I also have a nasty habit of going out and trying to be a myth buster, and I think I have already disproved several myth's about our cars and the EEC ;).

04-30-2008, 01:14 PM
The statement that was made that 89-93 EEC's only run at 12Mhz, but in reality they run at 15Mhz just like the 94-95's. Secondly is the so called 1400kg/h limit from a MAF reading which some stated was because of the clock speed. Simply put, the actual limit will not be hit by anyone's car anytime soon. It was a parameter in the EEC that was limiting the max amount of air, which until recently forced tuners to scale everything down to tune in AFR.

We will stay the Friday and most likely the Sat night, Im sure Sat will be a long day, Friday I dont know if we will get much done I personally need to get a Snow kit and 2 MP tensioners as well as a 10% blower pulley installed on my car once Im down there, now if we can do that Friday night at Dave's great, if not Ill have to do it Sat morning before I can get on the dyno to tune. Saturday will be tuning, Sunday Dave said he emailed the track but no responce. I want to make the reservation but Im waiting on if we need to book for 2 rooms or just 1, Im waiting on Vytas and Eric, as soon as they post here I will call the hotel and make stuff in motion, If I dont hear anything by the end of the weekend I will just book, sound fair?

Guys

I may or may not make this trip as of this moment. If it doesnt happen, I will cover my motel costs. This is, I am afraid, my fault, and no one elses.
