Timing chain and engine "freshen up"

Are the timing chains on these engines a particular weak spot? How about oil pumps?

Here's why I ask......

I am doing a freshen-up on a (supposedly) 58k miles used engine. You know, a "rings-bearings-valve grind" sort of thing.

I really don't want to take unnecessary risks so I am sorely tempted to replace the oil pump and chain while I'm at it. OTOH, I'm on a bit of a budget so if someone says "Aw, heck, the chain and pump go forever on these engines" I just might be tempted to save a couple hundred bucks.

My goal for this car is to have a nice driver. It'll never see a race track and I don't thrash my cars :)

Somebody nudge me one way or the other !

Thanks

They should be fine if they only have 58k miles on them. I would replace them if you were doing a complete rebuild.

You can always look at their condition, pull the oil pump off and see if the timing cover has alot of wear.
