Ok fellas, here's my situation. Remember that DOHC i've been wanting? well, i've got the money to do it, i've got the time to do it (barely) but i have no truck now. My buddy's (dodge) pickup blew a front Diff, so it cant be driven, much less 100 miles... What do you all think my chances are of bein ok driving the DOHC back instead of towing it? Dude says it runs great, it's got a mail order tune via SCT tuner for a DOHC swap, is a ~47k mile motor, yadda yadda... One thing that kinda concerns me is the trans is not force lube modded and the car has 3.73's. Is that gonna eff up the bushing driving it 500 miles at 80+ like that? Other than that, i think i'll be ok. Unless someone wants to donate a truck and trailer this weekend. I'll be leaving Springdiddy around midnight friday night and have to be back to go to work by 10 saturday night... I want this car bad, but do u think i'm taking too big of a risk driving it that far?

Any insight appreciated,
Brad

Here's the car...

Simple solution: Don't drive 80+.................

Keep it to 70. You won't have a problem with the trans.

I only said 80 cuz i may have some time constraints... I only have from 11p friday night to 10p saturday night to go to Louiville Ky. and back. 23 hours to do ~16 hours of driving according to google... I'll be doin the speed limit untill i get close to home cuz i'm gonna put my plates on his car to come back and i dont want an out of state ticket, let alone a failure to register on top of that... So the trans will be ok @ 70-75ish w/o the mod? sweet... i think i'll prolly just drive then... I'm gonna take a friend of mine w/ me to share driving duties since i'll have to work for 8 hours when i get back, i'll need a lil shut eye, lol.

Thanks for the reply guys,

I should have me a DOHC by sunday. :)

70ish is about 85ish if I remember right. haven't driven a 3.27 car in a while.

I know there are people that did 90 for long road trips..... Their name starts with an M.

mike did, from joplin to kc in october. i know cuz i had to try to follow him...

And the original plan was to meet in st. louis, then i was just gonna haul mine to louisville and haul his back, then i finally decided to just drive mine there and his back... I kinda figure i'm prolly getting the better deal in the trade, so i dont mind doin this... i just dont wanna eff the car up b4 i even get home, lol. oh yeah, the IMRC's dont work, will that do anything other than give it crappy low end power?

Brad,

One of the guys in our club, Jeff, is from Louisville so if need be, I'm sure something could be worked out. I'm sure he would help out if you need him. Just let me know and I can PM you his number.

LOL Now, now, I may have hit 90 on occasion to get around slow cars... But the cruise was always set at 7-8 mph over the posted speed limit. :D

I'd go ahead and drive it back. Deals like that don't come along every day.

I have 3.73s in my auto. Have had for years with no tranny mods. No problems. Not sure if there is a problem waiting to happen, but the tranny has near 100K now.

It's Jeff Bratton. Super nice guy and he even looked at a truck in his area when I was looking for a Lightning at the time. He'll go out of his way to help you out.

Glad to hear that. :) If i end up goin 4.10, i'll get the mod for sure. I'm just gonna drive it home and hope for the best, i dont see any problems. I'm so excited, i get a DOHC, i get an apartment, life is good. :D at least untill i go completely broke and lose the apartment and cant afford to drive the DOHC, lol...

Better job is in the works and a house will have to wait a couple years, as i have filed bankruptcy... Made several horrible mistakes when i first got credit, so i'm gonna start over and do it right this time. I can get houses for 30-35k all day long around here :D Just dont have the credit right now.

im keeping my car. I found out the DOHC isnt "finished" and i dont want/cant afford another project. If i wanted to dump money in a car, i'd rebuild the engine in mine. (which will happen eventually) I'm happy w/ my new apartment and freedom. I'll keep my reliable DD and let him work on his project :D
