How to clean coolant overflow tank ?

Has anyone found a good way to clean those nasty stains from the inside of the plastic tanks ? I'm getting ready to replace the leaking one in my 91 in a few days and the replacement looks just as nasty as the old one.

Toilet bowl cleaner, acetone, CLR, etc... Any solvent will do it.

I cleaned one out using the thick formula toilet bowl cleaner.

I actually bought it from dealer stock about 5 years ago. I think it was one of the last 4 or 5 left in the system; although I could be confused with the NOS washer fluid reservoir I purchased around the same time :)
