After some investigating and pricing I have decided that a V8 is the cheaper way to make power reliably. Now I know that 15 guys are going to jump in to ridicule me, I'm not in any way cutting up the 3.8sc so please save your comments, this is just the direction I'm heading. If anyone knows of a Tbird V8 for sale or possible trade for an SC please let me know, I may consider 4.6L.

Here's the rundown on the '90:

1990 Ford Thunderbird Supercoupe
103K original
5-spd transmission - shifts great, no issues
Titanium Silver on full black leather (I'll be swapping out the cloth in the pics, seats, door panels, and rear speaker covers will all be leather)
Dual full power front seats, split folding rear seat
PW/PDL/PM/P M-ROOF/P TRUNK
Code Alarm aftermarket keyless entry/alarm
Cruise
Air
VMM
Storage tray in the top of the dash

The bad:

There is a small hole rusted in the center drivers rocker. Easily fixed with a small patch of steel, this is not a missing rocker or anything like that, it justs needs a patch, I could even do it previous to the sale for extra $$$.

There is a small dent just behind the drivers side marker, it can be seen in the pics.

There is a small rust bubble just starting where the rear bumper cover meets the quarter panel, again it can be seen in the pics.

The car will come all stock. I will have some performance parts for sale also or they can be worked into the price of the car. I will be keeping all 5-spd related performance parts as I would like to do a swap into a 5.0L with an M5R2 (I already have a parts car with all of the necessary gear).

Performance parts:

Mirror polished 3" cold air intake, with fender mounted cone filter. (brand new never installed)
Under drive pulleys (3 pulley set, used but in very good shape)
5% overdrive pulley (barely used, very good condition)
White face gauge overlays (brand new never installed)
Autometer phantom 2 1/16th boost & volts gauges (used but like new condition)
Bosch premium plug wire set (brand new, never installed)
Eibach 1.5" drop springs (used - I may use these on the V8 if possible)
17" TSW Stealth Rims (it can come with these or stocks + or - $$$)

There's more I'm sure, I will update later.

I'm asking $3200obo for the car or trades on a V8, again preferably 5.0L but I will consider all 8's.

Oh and don't mind the dirt, the paint actually looks a lot better, it needs a wash badly.

Is it leaking oil? Any other known issues?

Oh sorry, it has a power steering leak. I can include any necessary parts to repair, it looks like it is leaking at one of the line connections. It runs across and drops on the pass side.

you know thats funny, i had the same exact thought process this morning that you have, if i could go back in time, i would have kept the 5.0 in my 92 bird and threw on a supercharger, an easy 360hp

search on google, they have a man that put an eaton m90 from a s/c on a bone stock 5.0 mustang and made 360 hp at the rear wheels with a home port job on the heads and a few other minor mods. I believe it cost less than $1G total.

From what I remember reading, the M5R2 is actually the more stout tranny between it and the standard Borg Warner T5 that used to come in the Mustangs. The M5R2 is actually the tranny that Ford used in F-150 trucks for a while. I believe it was built to handle more power and torque, but didn't shift as nicely as the T5.

I'm not sure how the M5R2 would compare against something non-stock, like the World Products T5, or the Tremec 3550 for example. I think later Mustangs (first ones with the 4.6L V8) started coming with a Borg Warner
T45.

I'm sure Ed could clarify this for us.

Cheers,

Sean

Trevor, why don't you keep the car, and pick up my old 5.0L that I am sure my friend will sell (as he is looking to part ways with it) ..you can pull out the 5.0L from there..runs well, no issues, it even has a new oil pan..the car has been sitting, and I dont know if its worth putting on the road, but the 5.0L in you car would be sweet...my old XR7 is too good to be sent to the scrap yard.

Let me know..

not to go too off topic but the m5r2 is a truck transmission, a workhorse

they have some people on tccoa that run 600hp through them all day long

i currently have an m5r2 on my 351w

from what i've gathered, the limits of the m5r2 have yet to be reached

i've got a carb'd 5.8 powered cougar that i've been looking to trade for an sc. Has some rust issues, but solid drive train. It's got 7.5 to 1 compression pistons in it, begging for forced induction, lol. It's already had an M5R2 swap done, and works great 'cept for the 1-2 synchro is bad. only prob is i'm in missouri, and won't be able to make it to canada, lol. pm me if u want more details on my car.
