I know audi does it factory.
just curious

it's to help cut drag and speed of the airflow on the bottom of car,
plus i would put under coating on it,on the side that face's the underside of the car to cut noise, but audi's car that i have driven did not make any.

I thought about doing that at one time, but didn't have the skills or the desire to make it happen. One thing to consider is that, if the exhaust is routed above the tray, it may resonate pretty badly. Especially if the tray is just flat metal, with no ribs to stiffen it. Maybe that is what the poster above meant by noise and vibration.

This is most surely the worst idea ever Jason. May God have mercy on your soul for this ridiculious idea of idiocy.
(Or maybe he's just trying to get rid of all the sheetmetal from his old spoiler?)

Dude, what the hell man? What posesses you to make comments like this????
You know damn well I had dibs on it for my airplane.

I'd use it for the airplane. Less modification is necessary. :D:D
I don't know if you've really looked or not, but the underside of the Bird (MN12) is already pretty smooth (relative to other vehicles). And the front of the chassis (the area forward of the front axle line) already has two plastic covers to smooth airflow there. Putting a sheet metal cover under the entire thing would be a pointless of time and material for very little gain. Besides, it'd just be one more Pain in the *** thing to remove when changing ANYTHING under the car.

i want to be able to get to 145 quicker, plus i do plan on some strack days this summer, with my bud bill,it does makes a differance in the areo of the car.
I have done some searching on the subject,by speeding up the air underneath ,and slower air above the car help create downforce at higher speed's.
dumb ~~~ my wing was fiberglass not sheet metal.
It will be going on the sc later when i get my hood.
also if you can't be postive then stay the hell out.

Let me think about this for a minute. By making the bottom of the car flat with sheet metal, and allowing the top of your car to remain curved (the air has to go up, over the car) the air flowing over the car will travel faster than the air going under the car, thus creating lift, not downforce. That is precisely how an aircraft wing works. A curved upper surface, a flat lower surface. This is also why NASCAR had to start putting the flow spoilers on the roofs of the racers. They pop up and interrupt airflow to prevent the cars from taking off when they're going sideways. The only thing that keeps them on the ground when they're going forward is the front splitter (preventing air from going under the car) and the wing providing downforce (at speeds your car will never see Jason)

As for the Cobra wing on the trunk... no comment.

Too much laminar flow isn't always a good thing... I've read that a little bit of turbulent air between the body of the car and the layers of laminar air sometimes helps lower drag.

140 isn't where the NASCAR racers drive at. And they are the cars I was using to make my point. I've had the GT up to 130 (once) and it was perfectly stable (on a long, flat, straight open road). But 130-140 isn't 185-200 (Where the NASCAR boys play). And even 130-140 isn't a good place to visit on a regular basis unless you are driving a car built for racing on a course built for racing. But we've debated that issue as well.
Edit: For the record, though the car felt stable at 130, I didn't feel comfortable there as I didn't know if the car would or could steer or brake quick enough to avoid any hazards that might show up (VERY quickly). So the "run" didn't last long and won't happen again unless I get lucky and am invited to a track.

Remind me to never ride with Jason, especially if he's driving.
And how about a "Lets peel Jason off the highway" meet this summer.
And he's putting the spoiler on so he can peel potatoes on the run :D

Ditto my Friend, Ditto. He drives his car pretty well (around town, never ridden "fast" with him) But his 5 spd skills have slipped a lil. My neck still hurts a lil bit from Feb. lol.
Sry Jason, if you'd told me you couldnt drive a 5 speed very well to begin with, i wouldnt have said anything...

With the AOD 3rd gear redline is 105 +/- 5 I went through the lights @ the track & kept going for a second, then it up-shifted to OD in time to apply the brakes.
very close to 5K in the 5spd too.

Meh, I've hit myself with hammers at times... and I sure wish there were made of chocolate when that happened! If you're gonna post some tools, do it right.
A MAN's hammer: Fat max 22oz, very similar to mine except I rock a 24oz discontinued one. Hickory hatchet handle. This'll put a forearm on ya quick.

And if that can't get it done, then pull out your FUBAR and really jack it up! You can take down a house with one of these things!
