Timing Cover Spring Removal

Does anyone know how to remove the little tin cover and spring I think its has something to do with the oil pump from the timing cover.I wanna remove it to make sure all the blasting media is cleaned out of it.Thanks

From your description it sounds like you are talking about the pressure relief valve for the oil pump.

According to the Ford Shop Manual the spring is covered with a plug you have to drill a hole through and use a slide hammer to remove. Have to purchase a new plug to reinstall. Inspect the spring for signs of fatigue or collapse. Inspect the valve for clearance. If you see side to side movement in the bore by the valve end...you have to buy a new front cover.
 
I think I used a punch and hammer to knock it sideways and remove with plyers .. like removing a freeze plug from the block or heads ..
