check engine light always on?

New engine just got it running and the eng. light stays on all the time. Also the fan is running all the time. I'm running reg. water in it to help seal the gaskets, right now. What do I need to check concerning the check eng. light? thanks
 
You have a sensor somewhere that is not plugged in or is dead and the car has gone into limp mode.

Check all of them, and hopefully its just one that was missed.

I have a code scanner but I don't know if that is what I need or not. I've never read any codes before so I'm not sure how to read them for trouble shooting.
 
I have a actron 2 or3 scanner. It says that it is for a domestic ford , lincoln & Mercury. Problem solved! I found the temperature connection and it was not push down all the way. It was the one below on the water line. The check engine light is off and fan stopped running, thanks.
