no start problem...help...

well I just bought a 92 SC and it will turn over but won't start..the guy i bought it from drove it home when he bought it and parked it, he said it had a miss like a bad cylinder..i guess he tried starting it one day and it wouldn't fire and so it sat til i just bought it..i went over there today and messed with it to try to get it running to drive home and I put a good battery in and replaced the DIS with a known good one...the car turns over but won't start,the tach is jumpin all over the place and the cpu in front of the air filter box is buzzin like crazy with the key on...anybody have any ideas i want to get this car running as soon as possible..i'm goin to replace that ircm with mine out of my 90 SC to see if that fixes the problem,i'm not sure if they are interchangeable because the first letter on the part number of my ircm is E and the first letter on the 92 is F although they both have the letter L stamped on the box..also gonna check into eec relay...but any ideas would be greatly appreciated...

i think the tach thing is usually related to the crank sensor, which if it is bad would also mean no start. the first thing i would check though is fuel pressure. make sure you are getting all the basics, fuel...spark... then go from there. could be just as simple as a fuel filter.
 
will do..i'm goin to work on it today...i read the crank sensor is a pain in the a** to change..my 90 SC runs perfect but everything else on the car is fallin apart so i'm just gonna use my 90 as a donor for parts to fix this 92...i'm goin to swap my ircm from my 90 in it today to see if that changes anything, hopefully they are interchangable....i guess i'll find out...and i'm goin to change the eec relay..so i'll update about the fuel and spark later tonight and just go from there like ya said...thanx

ok heres an update, yesterday i went to work on the car. I first checked the eec relay in the power distribution box and it didn't have one so I brought the one that was on my 90 and put it in.tried starting the car after puttin a lil gas in the throttle body and it fired but didn't stay running..the ircm in the 92 buzzes everytime during Key on engine off..so i decided to switch it out with the one off my 90 and i put a lil more gas in the throttle body turned it over and it fired again stayed runnin for a few seconds acted like it was goin to die so i gave it a lil gas and the engine like backfired or something and i could see like a lil puff of smoke or dust off the left side of the engine:confused:. but then I turned it over again after getting out and looking the engine over finding nothing wrong and it fired right up again and stayed runnin for a lil longer than it did before, i was revvin the engine just a lil to keep the rpms up so it would stay runnin but if i revved it too high the tach would start jumpin all over the place and the engine would stutter...well by this time my battery i brought with me was dyin but it would fire even with the slow cranking of the battery it just wouldn't stay running and it would do that all the way til my battery gave up on trying...when i bought the car the seller told me the car had a bad miss i could feel it when it was running so i'm going to hopefully get down there today and check the spark plug wires and make sure they are on correctly and switch out my coil pack from my 90 on to it..also i did check to see if it was gettin fuel at the rails by pressing on that valve and it sprayed out a good amount of gas so i came to the conclusion it's gettin gas and it definently has spark...i had did the search on the interchangeability of the the ircm from my 90 to 92 and did see where it said it wouldn't work but when i put it in it fired and ran for a lil while...hopefully i can get an ircm from a 92 auto asap...but so far thats the news...i might bring my cam sensor off my 90 to put on it just to see if that helps...anyway i might have more later today..thanx for the help...
 
ok went out to the car today switched coil packs and checked spark plug wiring...it's all correct..went to start it and it started with both IRCM and ran for a few seconds at a time but there is a relay or somethin buzzing and clicking behind the supercharger somewhere near the firewall it sounds like...anybody know what that could be? any help would be greatly appreciated....thanx
 
update........

well I found atleast one of the problems with it not starting.....after reading all night on here about dis module,coil pack,ignition switch,cam sensor,and crank sensor failures....i couldn't stand just sittin around doin nothin about the SC, i can't really do much at all cuz i'm still recoverin from surgery but i decided to atleast go out and turn the key over to see if i got an upshift light while crankin,maybe a clue to if the crank sensor has took a crap but while i was doin that i noticed somethin else....only half my instrument panel lights were comin on.....no upshift....no firm ride....no seatbelt.....and that reminded me of somethin...when my ignition switch on my 90 had somehow came loose from the mount...so i took off the covers on the column and what do you know...i find this....

maybe this explains the buzzin in the IRCM and the relays...cuz from what i read all the power goes through this switch and i'm thinkin if it wasn't makin a good connection that there wasn't much power at all goin through and that would be causin the electrical system to act up.... what you guys think?

my suspiscions have been confirmed...went out there and tightened up the ignition switch...no more buzzin IRCM...no more buzzin behind the supercharger (which i believe was prolly the pump for the anti-lock brakes) ....also before i found this today,i noticed the other day that there was no numbers showin up on the climate control and the fan blower wasn't workin....but now all that is workin... but now my battery is dead:(...o-well:rolleyes:
