Team spirit prevailed with the Super Coupe Club of Iowa and their invited guests as they took the Clash bragging rights back after a disappointing loss last fall.

Took the 4 hour drive down to Earlville, IA to participate in heart, if not competitively with the group. We started with 8 cars in our crew, but lost 2 during the test & tune before the time trials could start. Ken's M112 froze up, and Mike's clutch burned up.

GTP's were all done by the second to last round. Mike and Thomas were in the finals, with Thomas wining in his XR7 that he's been working on for a while. (it looked real nice)

2nd Gear plagued me, as I knew it would. Babying 2nd had me struggling to figure out what to do the first 5 runs down the track. My best time was my loss in the first round with a red light.

RT: -.185
60': 2.288
1/8: 9.362@77.50
1/4: 14.302@102.70

I just ran street tires so my 60' times show the light foot on the throttle necessary to leave cleanly. ET shows the double clutching to get second that went on.

A fun time once again, with great weather.

sry to hear about the 5spd gremlins but unfortunately it happens.

I'd really like to stick it to those gtp guys but when im done with my 408ci in. twin turbo 5 speed sc I'm sure i won't qualify with them.

would be fun though.

It would qualify. It's bracket racing, so it may not be that fun for you, but I'm sure we'd let you run it.

Sucks to hear that Ken is still having blower problems. I was unimpressed with World Street Challenge (this past weekend) and wish I would have attended the Club Clash instead.

Hope to make it to the fall meet.

Your trap speed seems high, did you have wheel spin in the 60' despite light throttle?

Just a touch of wheel spin. As soon as it happens, the wheels hop, so I immediately modulate the throttle to get rid of it. On that run, 2nd gear hook was solid, no chirp. and that run was also after a 1.5 hour break for lunch. So the blower was cool and fast. Last fall I had a couple 101 and a 102 trap speeds and a high 13 second pass.

With my gearing (stock), 3rd gear is in the meat of the torque and power band so I get good acceleration on the 2 to 3 shift.

It's a major difference in this car compared to the 90 with the auto. Much more frantic. In the 90, you basically are just sitting back with the foot to the floor after the launch, often times beating on the steering wheel to make it go faster.

This motor is hungry, and feels like it is chasing a rabbit as RPM's come up and it's time to shift again. Only in the last little bit of the track does the pace slow as RPM's head above 5000 in 3rd. I believe this improvement in power band is from the tweaks of the tune done by Dave. It'll take me about another year to get things dialed in. Maybe 2. I feel like I'm on the right road. (note I didn't run the Snow on this run or any but 2 runs.. didn't plan to need it, so I used it up in two runs to see if it helped. Didn't really)

I do not believe I can imagine the frantic pace that a 5 speed with over 400hp and 400lb/ft going down the track creates for a driver. I suppose you get used to it.

The info from my first runs with this car last fall is here:
