View Full Version : Who knows their Audis

I'm looking to buy an Audi with AWD within the next month or two. I'm not spending more than $10000 and I want AWD. I plan to use it mostly to commute 48 highway miles once a day and occasional 4 hour drives to NY. I don't know much about which engines are the best or anything so I'm open to ideas. I don't want my cougar to see another winter and the Yukon gas mileage isn't cutting it for the commute. I'm not too concerned with repair costs which is usually a big no no for krautburners. I like the craftsmanship and creature comforts but need guidance on a good bang for the buck motor. Most of the ones I've seen in my price range either have the 2.8 v6 or the 4 banger turbo.

Not so sure about the repair costs not being an issue. The quality/reliability gloss of German cars has sorta worn off in the last decade or so. Be prepared for expensive parts. We had an A6 in the shop a year or two ago. A glove box door was $900. No lie.
Still, the Audis I've driven were a real treat. Neat cars. The A8 is awesome and you can buy 'em dirt cheap, relatively speaking.
Sorry I can't offer any speciifc advice. I'm strictly a T-Bird and Jag guy :D
Good luck

But thanks anyway. Non members can't see the lounge so it doesn't get out to as many people. Go patrol another post.

i work for vw audi and they have alot of problems and if you plan on spending only 10k you'd probly end up with one that needs alot of work. if you want something awd that you can get in and turn the key everyday and not think twice look at some subaru's

Are they wear and tear problems or engine/electrical problems? I really can't stand subarus for some reason but I guess I could look into them. It's mostly a spare car so I don't want to break the bank but I know there's decent cars out there for 10K.

Jeremy,
Are you looking for a winter car for over there cuz I know first hand how bad winters suck in NE Pa. If so I would get an Explorer sport stick 4x4 they get good gas mileage, and with the 4wd it plows thru the snow, but if it snows at all out you want it in 4x4 high.

I ran a turbo suburu with almost no oil pressure at idle (2/4psi) to 240k WITH the turbo turned up! motors are VERY VERY tough and the same goes for the cars themselves!
