Electrical gremlin question

Hey guys, a buddy of mine has a '98 Ranger that's giving him problems. Every week or so when he goes out to try to start it, it's completely dead. No lights, radio, anything. After a few minutes it will start, but he has to reprogram the radio stations. There's a bad connection somewhere, but we don't know where to start looking.

I would start with the Battery saver circuit. Sounds like it might be acting up. Might try unplugging the Generic electronic module (Gem) first, and then plug it back in. They can do some pretty funny things and just need unplugged and replugged back in. If I remember correctly it is located behind the radio on those trucks. Dont remember off hand where the relay is for that, usually in the junction fuse panel, not underhood fuse panel. Try the Gem first then look for a battery saver relay...relay may be sticking closed and causing interuppted power supply to the truck.
