Yep....been going on for some time. Not just search...can happen from any link AFAIK.

Database error
The database has encountered a problem.
Issue: mysql_pconnect() ... Too many connections
solution: the max_connections limit is set too low in my.cnf - increase the limit and restart mysql/apache.

I doubt it is simply a matter of raising the connection/request threshold however. Might be some issues with 'pay-for-play' bandwidth going on in the background, but that's just my guess...
