    ac compressor help ?

1994 SC , Air cond went out today. After looking under the hood, the compressor will spin for a half second then stop, and maybe kick in again for another half second after about 10 seconds.

Can I repair this or does the compressor need to be replaced? Can this be fixed without de-charging the system?

    Any help is much appreciated.
    Thanks MB

From your description it sounds like your freon charge is low.

if it was recently serviced, it could be overcharged also, causing the high pressure switch to cut out the compressor. get a set of manifold gauges and get it to proper pressure... should be around 120 psi static on both high and low service ports.

if you have proper charge, i would finger a faulty pressure switch.

I concur....also had the rapid cycling due to a faulty cycling pressure switch in the accumulator/dryer once.
