    Fiberglass doors/trunk lid project update

Well both glass doors are on, latch, and lock. Just gotta get the windows in, and mess with lining doors up better. Trunk project is going well too. got trunk lid off, everything out of trunk, got the bracket and lights back in. Glass deck lid fits over perfectly, and will pin down easy. Doors are a pain though and take alot of time to get done properly. Trunk project was actually really easy.

I take it you're doing the Hairy Glass decklid, or at least one in that style? I've been talking with another member here about a glass decklid, but I'd like to have one in a stock, bolt-on style. It would be more expensive, but more practical for most, I think.

Any idea on your weight savings with the project?

after cutting the bracket needed for rear lights off old steel trunk lid, the piece that remains is 25lbs, glass lid is 5lbs. But all the brackets and bars and other stuff i was able to take out i didn't need was another 15lbs. Then trunk carpeting, tire, and jack is another 50lbs. For my entire project i will save 400 too 500lbs.

I've thought about the Hairyglass deck lid too but also didn't like it w/o the taillights mounted on it. I can't do mine like the one in the photo because I keep my slicks in the trunk and won't be able to get them in and out like that. I've wondered if it would be possible to cut that portion off of a stock deck lid and epoxy/carbon fiber it into place on the Hairyglass lid. I'd also like to retain the hinge and mount the arms to the lid.

the way i handled the trunk lid is fine cause i dont need to get in there that much.

The windows are in the doors now and work properly no sticking issues. All that is left now is getting them lined up better, and putting mirrors on.

Also gutted the back seat area and took passenger seat out, another 161 lbs gone. up to 365lbs thus far with still some work to do yet.

How much does that lid weigh? The reason I ask is that it may be worth while to re-skin the trunk lid with that.

It weights 5lbs. Everything adds up after awhile. My car is 365lbs lighter atm, still got some more to come out yet.
