    1996 Tbird sport for sale

    SOLD!!!!

Unfortunately I need to clean up my driveway and must sell this car. She's a 1996 Sport in color saddle (tan). It's got 165,000 miles and slowly things go wrong with it and I don't want to keep putting money into it. Most recently the battery died and so I had to charge it. It works for now but a new battery is probably a must before the winter.

I have an offer of $800 from somebody who wants to drive this as their winter car. However, he can't buy the car for another month until he can find a new house to rent and store the car. So, if I can find a buyer here and get the car out of my driveway any sooner, I will. I will get pics as soon as I can too, I'm sorry I don't have any uploaded yet.

EDIT: New price, $500 or best offer. I'm all ears...
EDIT: 11/11/2010 - Added new pics

    The good
    • 4.6L V8
    • I am the 2nd owner (My dad was the original owner)
    • Used synthetic oil ever since it was new
    • Recently (within 10-20,000 miles) replaced the lower control arms (and ball joints) in the front as well as the upper control arm (and ball joint) on the drivers side. This included new bushings for anything I replaced.
    • Replaced outer tie rod ends on both sides.

    The bad
    • The gears or something in the moonroof are damaged but I do ahve a new motor and assembly that I never got around to installing.
    • Also about 7 years ago I had the transmission rebuilt with a Mark VIII torque converter and some modified springs per Jerry's recommendation. There is a shudder now and then but nothing too bad.
    • EDIT (11/11/2010): NEW Replaced front brake pads. OLD The driver's side front brake began to grind. I don't want to put more money in it and plan to leave it how it is. $40 is all it costs and you have a car that drives without any noise.
    • Probably needs a new battery for the winter.
    • EDIT (added 10/27): Cruise control, clock and ACC wire (on stereo) don't work

    The ugly
    • Two winters ago some guy on the highway swiched lanes into my car and so on the driver's side the rear quarter panel and door are both dented pretty bad. I did buy a new door, but it's blue and haven't had it painted yet but you can have it since I won't be needing it. The accident totaled the car for the 2nd time.
    • Probably about 7 years ago now, the car was totaled due to hail damage. The hood doesn't look too bad but at an angle you can see hail damage. Same goes for the rest of the car.
    • It's rusting but I have seen a lot worse on MN12s with a lot less miles.

P.S. I also have a Ford Lightning MAF, the hose to connect the MAF to the intake and a Jerry Chip (from way back before (people started calling it the "J Chip") I'm sure the parts there are worth $100-$200 alone.

Sorry RedSC93. Not trying to be an a$$ but the subforum description says MN12 cars only, doesn't say it has to be an SC. Neither does the sticky. It is on tccoa.com too btw.

I want this thing out of my driveway and don't want to wait for the other guy to buy it. In a month who knows if he will change his mind so I will take the best offer. So, the asking price is $800 or best offer...

    Question

Does the car have a moonroof, and is it a V8? Since your your dad bought it new, is it possible that he still has the window sticker, and/or any other purchase documentation for the car? Are you positive it has the 'Sport' option from the factory? What other options does it have?

    Thanks.

    Michael

    Hey Michael.

Yes, the car has a moonroof. I mentioned it in the description. The motor is messed up (doesn't stop where it should and some of the teeth in the gears are chewed up). However, I do have a new motor with gears but never installed it. Not saying it will be 100% but that should be all that's needed.

I will check for the window sticker. I doubt I've saved it.

Not sure how to verify it has the sport option. If there are RPO codes or something I can cross reference I can let you know.

Other options would be premium sound but the lights on the radio blew a long time ago and I have an aftermarket headunit on it.

Added an edit, was in the car and realized I did not include that the cruise control, clock and ACC wire on the radio don't work.

btw, the sport also came with a mustang gt 302 ho designed with a cobra crank making it something special in its days. not a 4.6. never has there been a 4.6 in a sport

There WAS a Sport pkg. available on the T-Bird in '96 & '97.
It included larger front disc brakes, hence the reason for using
the 16" SC look-alike wheels, along with stiffer springs & shocks.
Possibly other stuff I'm not aware of.

It always amazes me how quick people are in these forums to dismiss what someone has. This is a Thunderbird Forum and yet alot of people don't know what they're talking about. The Thunderbird Sport was an actual model in 1991, 1992, and 1993. The LX Sport came with the 5.0 High Output engine. If you do a google search you'll find that there was an LX, LX Sport, and Super Coupe available those years. In 1996 and 1997 you could order an LX with the available SPORT package which was only available with the 4.6 V8. The car didn't have any badges on it that said Sport, but you could tell them apart from the other LX's by the bigger 16" wheels, and the trunk mounted spoiler. I hope this can clear up any confusion about the Sport models. I owned a 1996 LX with the Sport package and it was a fantastic car!

Talking And the crowd goes wild

i understand the (sport package) of which you speak. however in 92 they made a t-bird that was not a (sport package) but was a sport. that does not mean (lx sport) or (sport package). like ours is a super coupe. infact it even had more hp than the sc in its stock form.

92 was the 1 AND ONLY YEAR that SPORT was a base model for the t-bird.

for example i added some links, go to this link and type in 91,92,93 t-birds and you will see only 92 offers it as an official trim.
