Official Things I Learned At the 2011 Shootout

  1. It is possible to bring 3 kids under the age of 5 and still have a good time.
  2. It is possible to spend your wedding anniversary at the Shootout (it helps having flowers waiting in the room when you arrive  ).
  3. It is possible to repack all of the stuff required for 3 kids back in the vehicles in the rain (meaning you have to get it right on the first try).
  4. A 25 °F temperature increase from last year makes my car run more than .5 seconds slower.
  5. Anthony's #2 stories are funny to this guy
  6. There is never enough Yuengling.
  7. GoPRO cameras are cool.

1 putting a tranny cooler in front of your IC raises your ACT temp:mad:
2 Non working Snow system wont cool those ACT temps
3 Damon really has LEDs under his hood and they are cool
4 Pepper works great as stop leak in a radiator
5 Saturdays dinner was incredable. Thanks all you who made it happen
6 Arnold was was of my favorite guys at the shootout to listen to:D
7 Tech guy thought my helmet might be older than me:rolleyes:
8 Casey blew me away with his dyno run numbers:cool:
9 Coreys paint job was beatiful
10 I need to take more time to meet all the interesting people at the meet

6.) Dalke can beat your times by a full second with a 5 speed.

Tell me about it.

1.) I need to reinstall my intercooler fan.
2.) Roast pig is awesome.
3.) The hotel this year was way better than last year.
4.) Don't forget your lawn chair or cooler.
5.) I know it sounds like a cliche, but the Shootout really does get better every year. This one was a blast.

  1. Bitzer paint > brake fluid.
  2. Don't leave the bathroom door open, unless you're staying with mista Nickelman.
  3. Damon, aka "Pops", does exist.
  4. Jack handle > Damon
  5. Kevin needs a damn tuuuunneee!!
  6. Reusing MLS head gaskets and putting high temp RTV on the large bare metal spots can still hold 800rwhp.
  7. You CAN max out an A1000, on E85, at 700+rwhp.
  8. It's possible for my car to get a car show award?!!
  9. The Shootout disproves the "it takes a fool to try the same thing twice and expect a different outcome" theory. Stick it, Einstein! Much different and more fun each year!!
  10. Where's my steak?!!

1 putting a tranny cooler in front of your IC raises your ACT temp:mad:

Yes it does! Added about 40* to mine in warm weather and the meth couldn't keep it under control.

Things I learned

450HP AR cars are only .1 slower than 800hp MT turbo cars.:D And thats only because the turbo car was a stripped down model.;)

450hp AR cars are 1 second quicker than 540hp MT turbo cars.

Sally thinks my "backin's" sexy

I need to put spark plugs in my tail pipes

Dressing a 40* pig in 50* weather is no fun

The shootout commity did an excellent job getting this together again

You sacrificed some good sleep to help them out at 3am. I think your help got overlooked, but it's appreciated.

That being said.....lets see some videos, son!!!!!

Stuff I learned this year.

*It is possible for Damon to attend a Shootout.
*LEDs under the hood, really are pretty cool.
*Bud Select 55 is only 2.4% alky (thanks for the 18 pk of Bud Light Brian)
*Supersized lawn chairs make me laugh.
*Dayton, Ohio weather forcast is always wrong.
*My v8 can be owned by a v6 on the dyno.
*My V8 can own that same v6 on the track.
*Casey imagines electronic steak dinner bets when he accomplishes a goal.
*Don't expect to sleep when Corey is working on his two step rev limiter.
*My turbo car does burnouts on the track almost as good as on the street.
*Rock hard brake pedal at Kilkare finish line doing 139 mph is scary
*Getting the spare tire out from under my Expedition is way too difficult.
*Phillip (don't you dare exceed 30 minutes) Dalke, runs the dyno competition better than his dad.
*Best of Show can also win a 1st place trophy on the track (congrats Ken).
*I saw my first tire that was only flat on the bottom and still full of air.
*Without Micah, nobody wants to stay up and go on crunk adventures.

Brian did most of the work I was just PIT BBQ Beotch:D

Wet 2x4s don't burn

Lighter fluid puts charcoal out

I'm scared in my old age. More people to worry about than just me.

1. The SC radiator WILL go Old Faithful on you when the cap is removed, even when the cap is only luke warm to touch
2. Maintain proper following distance when following SC's with a trailer (Sorry Jim)

Oh where to begin......

1. Don't let your 17yo son drive your car down the track for his first pass ever. He now thinks a 12.12@118mph is easy.

2. That same kid now thinks I'm going to build him a car.

3. Chris Vinning is NOT sqeemish about doing the nasty work with a raw pig at 3am.......

4. .......but he is nervous about two teenagers, some 2x4s and a big jug of lighter fluid!!!

5. Next time if we want the pig to get to the finish line on time we WON'T name it Turbo!!!

6. Kicking some ~~~ off the line, running well out in front all the way down the track then getting passed at 1200' by a turbo car doing 136mph is kind of deflating!!!

7. 5-speeds still break axels.....when will they ever learn??

8. Dalke actually owns cars than run and can make passes down the track.

9. Phil spent all week getting dads car running then didn't get to drive it himself.....what's up with that?

10. Tech inspection was pretty stringent this year...they must be cracking down.

11. A flat tire can be changed in 10 minutes on the side of the highway....even after taking 9 minutes to figure out how to get to the spare.

12. Big dents in doors actually make a car more aerodynamic.

13. What's up with all these tires being loaded into trunks before going down the track....people must have been thinking they might need a spare in the shutdown area after hearing about Casey's little adventure

Things I learned......

.I want a GMC TopKick pickup truck.
.Jeff at Precision is a really cool guy.
.Shootout Committee can pull it off with short notice.
.Its sad to see the full animal you are about to eat.
.Damon has small balls, and should have said no to the AM meeting he had on monday.
.Ryan learned to tune on my car and did a hell of job.
.Too much Methanol kills power not add.
.My spare car makes 5HP less then Iras spare car, but my spare car can make 8 passes down the track and go back home with only a broken cigarette lighter.
.Mike Menke needs to get another SC just to show up to the Shootout
.V6 cars can do some damage on V8s
.Casey is going get hurt if he does not fix or replace the tank. Holy sway.
.Dont dyno or race a car that its not intended for that use, makes you want to make it faster and more powerful after that.
.Need to bring my race car back to its previous status.

Update: I have also learned that I want to race a car with two less cylinders......

After much consideration and inspiration from Casey......I want an SC

So as I posted in the wanted section I am looking for any year SC in any condition. I just want a roller I dont even need a car with a title. Within 100 miles of Dayton i would come get it.

Thanks Casey :)

Brian,

I was very happy that you and your son were there to help out (Thank You again)...the extra hands, the floor jack and cordless impact sure made the job go a lot easier than it would have been with a tire iron and my little jack.

David

Negitive, we learned A LOT which resulted in less breakage.

Oh yeah, and have to retract my statement and give proper credit back to "daddio Oatway" He's the BURNOUT MASTER this year! :p
