Little update...The day came where I was ready to plug in my engine harness and start testing all of the sensor's inputs/outputs.

    Inputs:

    Crank position sensor
    Cam position sensor
    6 EGTs
    IC water temperature
    Transmission fluid temperature
    ACT
    ECT
    MAP (implies boost)
    Fuel pressure
    Oil Pressure
    Pre-turbo backpressure
1 wideband per bank of cylinders
    Line lock activated (3-step)
Driveshaft speed (boost by gear, traction control logic)
Front wheel speed (traction control logic, vehicle speed)

    Outputs:

Low oil pressure ECM shut down (if oil pump belt breaks or anything else that causes low oil pressure)
    Transmission cooler fan
    IC water pump
    Fully sequential fuel injection
Coil near plug (one per cylinder with up to 8ms of spark dwell time (stock is ~3ms I think)
    Boost control solenoid
    Trans brake
    Bump box
    Water pump
    Radiator fan

Everything seems to work well except for an untimely failure of the ECM's coil drivers. I tested all of the coils successfully, then as soon as I exited their test, a coil had a meltdown about 5 minutes later. I started checking the coil's harness and I never found anything wrong with it. Everything checked out well. All of a sudden, I wasn't getting any voltage on the spark outputs (coils trigger by going 5V high). So the ECM is back at DIY autotune for a repair. There is also an input that doesn't work anymore because I didn't wire the line lock to a relay, which ended up faulting that pin of the microprocessor. The input is rated to three amps, I measured 2.5 amps, so I took a bad risk and it got zapped. The peak current must have gotten it!

The factory power distribution box is a great resource for customizing wiring. Even the harness that leads into the driver's compartment (on late models). There are two low current and two high current relays that are good to use. I'm currently (no pun intended) using them for line lock (now i am), water pump, and rad fan. Then there are low and high wattage fuses that are awesome for whatever. A huge pain; however, to sort through the factory harness and trim out what you don't need anymore. Lost a lot of sleep on that project.

Getting the ECM back probably next Tuesday. Try to fire it up and hope all goes well. I'll have 2 widebands operating, but I'm having a hard time with my EGT module and that'll be out of play for next week unless if I can figure it out. I'm using two EGTs to measure tranny oil temp and IC water temp in order to operate the tranny cooler and IC water pump, respectively. I'll have to come up with crude conditions for them to operate off of.

I put in all the fluids, checked the water pump and there's good circulation. The copper head gaskets make me nervous, so I'm hoping there aren't any drips that spring up on me. There aren't any drips on the outer edges and hopefully there isn't leaks into the water system or combustion chambers!

I've tried to salvage many parts for this build. The starter that I got with the motor was a turd and the line loc that "survived" the car that burnt down is intermittently working. Had to spend mo money for a PowerMaster starter and new line lock.

    Things to finish:

    • Notch hood for monster intake / downpipes and install Quiklatches
    • Check fuel system for leaks and make sure everything is operating as it should
    • Install new line lock and bleed brakes
    • Run oil pump on drill (sometimes external systems need burped between oil empty/fills)
    • Adjust pinion angle (gotta remove driveshaft)
    • Do a makeshift alignment and camber adjustment
    • Equalize wheelbase
    • Finalize ride height
    • Clean'ish interior, install seats, mount harnesses
    • Put front lights/bezel together
    • Put on front bumper
    • Start engine and get that tune going

All the things....i'm gonna have to do some of them at the shootout. Who's down to help?

Heat gun (check), third hand device (check), flux (check), steak sauce (check).....

I like the remote control in the picture with the harness does that control the line locks and tuning, boost etc etc

Thanks guys! I have plenty to do so feel free to come help!

I started it up last night for a couple minutes. Sounds like it has a stock cam in it. I knew it was a mild'sh cam (slightly more aggressive than the 800rwhp engine's cam), but it sounds stock.

I have what appears to be steam coming from one side. I'm gonna look into it tonight, but I'm assuming it's because of the copper headgasket job. We'll see though! Too much to do before we leave tomorrow!
