Drill hole in core support?

I have a scenario where I need to find room for a coolant overflow bottle. I have a 2" stainless bottle that's about 15" long. I was looking at my setup and since I no longer have AC in the car I was wondering if I could just drill a 2.5-3" hole through the core support? I could weld in a piece of tubing in the hole to support it once the hole is in place.

Thoughts?
 
i think neverfastenough did that for his radiator fill. i would think it would be ok with the tube welded in.

I definitely agree with that principle. There just seem to be too many things in the way to put it anywhere else. I'll keep looking though. If the general wisdom is to not do it then I'll follow general wisdom.
