abs light..

I have a low mileage 1991 SC that has been in storage for a about 3 yrs or so. and recently I notice the abs light stays on when I start up the car. It used to go out shortly after it is running. Just wondering what would cause the light to stay on?

You'll want to see this page:
http://www.sccoia.org/articles/anti-lock-braking-system/
...'Basic Troubleshooting'.

Might be pump, relay, pressure switch, ignition switch, accumulator or combination of. Low hanging fruit is relay and ignition switch.

You'll need to know if the pedal is hard, any work done to the ABS recently, etc.

This comes up routinely [ see this recent thread w/over 100 posts... as an example], so feel free to search, then ask questions if you still have them.

Good luck.

Thanks for the infos.

It has just been sitting in storage. no work has been done to it. as why I find strange what would cause the abs light to come on.

The car was over two decades old when it went in - corrosion on any of the electricals I mentioned is not so strange, I think. These cars don't like not being driven, so 'just sitting' can be a curse in this case.

Did you run thru the ts link yet?

Yes, briefly. The pump does run, and it does shut off. but it'll run again after the brakes is depressed only twice.

Given your description, I'd say you just need a new accumulator ball. Try Victor at http://spinningwheels-sc.com

I think I might need a code reader.

Going to be difficult to find an ABS code reader for that car, I think. A regular code reader using the test port under the hood isn't going to know about your ABS.
