    Good morning

The connector in question is for the EGR sensor. Located in the back of passenger side cylinder head. The sensor is attached to a bracket. See attachment:

Does that have to be plugged in to start? My car doesn't have the egr anymore.

    Good morning

The connector does not need to attached to the EGR sensor to start the engine. I assume the ECU does not have a EGR function?

Is the upshift light on while cranking?

No the upshift light isn't on.

I had thought he head gaskets were blown so I went and pulled the motor and replaced them. Got it all back together it fired right up. Turns out I had 4 cracked pistons instead. So I got the engine out again and pulled pistons out of a donor engine and replaced them. And now it cranks but doesn't start.

Good info, thanks for the details...

Got it - that no-start troubleshooting linked procedure is your friend, I think. Just be sure to do the basics, such as a charged battery, and fuel in the tank, w/pressure at the rail.

    Good luck.
