This cost $8! The digital trans temp will eventually go on the other side of it

Thats a great idea. This car seriously needs a voltage monitor because the batt light doesn't do the job until there is a total failure. And then, you're hosed. With a voltage readout, you know the health of the alternator and when its failing.

I actually have a single LED circuit, from a hobby kit, that does the same job. I drilled a 1/16 hole and mounted it just above the headlight switch and glued the 1" circuit board to the back of the dash cover. . It shows solid red when the voltage is below 12, solid green when good, slow blinking green when charging, and blinking red when overcharging. It was about $8 as well.

I desperately wanted a volt meter too, and kept trying different ones that occupied the lighter socket, but it's too low, then found a digital A/F gauge that shows volts on start-up for a minute or so until the O2 sensors come online...every 15 minutes it automatically switches over and shows volts for one minute, then goes back to A/F - sits in a dual gauge pod on the A pillar with a dual temp analog gauge for IC in/out.

Lots of choices on the market now. I installed a panel mount digital volt meter in the Windstar:

It's a little bit easier on a 94/95 supercoupe dash, since I have an after market boost gauge I swapped out the stock boost/fuel gauge for a LX one with a volt gauge along with the correct surround. Simply plug and play, I no longer have the 96/97 dash panel on but the correct 94/95 one..................:D

You can do the same gauge swap with any 89+ SC.

I really like Jacob's idea - looks pretty sweet and you don't have to plug anything in. Need to move that O-Meter back there too....looks dorky just taped up there! ;) :p :D

I actually thought about incorporating it into the cluster like in place of the boost Guage so it's easy to see

Great job folks. Thanks for the photos. TbirdSCFan where did you find the LED? Have an aftermarket alarm hole was wondering what to do with.

If the hole is about 1.125" or so, there's a bunchteen of them on Amazon (and on places like Banggood, Everbuying, etc ... the Chinese exporters)

Thanks!
This a 1/8" hole on the dash surround below the speedo. Happy it can be put to use.
Been searching for digital for awhile. Looking for something that will work behind the clock face on 95's. Since going double-din not needed. Looks like that halve the AC vent 3 clock openings would fit below. Just need to find digital that will fit. Thanks for any thoughts!

If you can take a 1 1/8" hole (say about 1.25 to 1.5" display), there's a scad of them out there various types.

I picked the one I linked to earlier to get the dual USB ports also; besides, I want to know the voltage, the wife just wants to drive it! *grins*

Here's one that's about $11 plus shipping, has a bar graph around the gauge to indicate approx. voltage and the digital readout in the middle: https://www.banggood.com/12V-LED-Di...nel-Voltmeter-p-1139870.html?cur_warehouse=CN

If I were doing something to fit where the VMM normally fits, I'd look at one of these: https://www.banggood.com/0_28-Inch-...s-with-Protection-p-1268222.html?rmmds=search

Or the round one, and a second USB charger set *grins*

They also have these, in three color choices: https://www.banggood.com/Car-Auto-M...774.html?rmmds=search&ID=229&cur_warehouse=CN

Yes, all from Banggood. So far, everything I've bought from them has been as good or better than I expected. That was a pretty low bar, though, so ... *grins*

Mine was in a hobby kit from Jameco You have to assemble+solder it together which makes it kind of fun.

Kit/assemble? All it says is 'connect two wires' - looks like it's already assembled?

Did you separate the (1.18 x 0.78") board and LED/make the LED remote? Looks like the LED could sit in one of the square lamp pockets that run across the bottom of the gauge panel, if the brightness was right.

Nice device, BTW, thanks.

Thanks! Nice kit. Wanted 2 but with handling charge for orders less than $15 just bought 3. Out of stock. Hope they show up soon. Don't see any reason why couldn't extend the bulb.

That's the finished product in the picture. Its a couple of resistors, a small capacitor, an IC, the 3 lead LED, and a circuit board. The good thing is you can run wires for the LED and locate it just about anywhere you want. If I had more time, I would have put it in the instrument cluster itself, and I may still do that. The LED is small and doesn't put out a lot of light.

You need to find a wire or a tap for the 12v supply. I used the radio power wire since it was easy to get to and it was switched. I
epoxied the board itself to the back of the dash cover.
