OBD1 Ford readers are all pretty basic. Shop price. I have this one - eBay: https://www.ebay.com/itm/Innova-Equ...YMAAOSwo4pYbqw3:sc:USPSFirstClass!97305!US!-1

An extension cable so you can sit behind the wheel and perform all tests correctly is a big help. I made my own, but you can buy off ebay as well.

SC specific codes here: http://www.njtacc.com/tech/eec_codes.html

I'd consider one more than just handy...they are a must have with these cars and will pay for themselves by avoiding buying parts that aren't needed, etc.

Thanks as always for the info. Would this help me narrow down the brake issue since I have lights on my dash

Vendors claim the 3143 Innova also reads ABS codes. anti-lock Test Connector is in the trunk, right side, up inside the fender, tapped to the harness?

You also can jumper at the ABS self-test port and read the codes via the light in the dash - see this thread for details: http://www.sccoa.com/forums/archive/index.php/t-38757.html

Also be sure to see Duffy's page on the '90s ABS here: http://www.sccoia.org/articles/anti-lock-braking-system/

If you plan on keeping this car for a while take the plunge at about $150 and buy a SNAP- ON MT2500. It will do everything form engine, trans, and abs and not really a lot of cash. That's the one I use on the SC and it's a outstanding tool.

Most I see are more then the 150

I picked up the Innova 3145 code reader. Used the test port under the hood received a code 11 with key on engine off. I'm trying to test the abs system to determine the reason for my brake light on the dash. I have the common stuff pedal problem. Where is this test connector? I've looked around here but haven't seen it and I'm sure it's been right in front of my face. Thanks for any help

Stiff pedal...

Most common:
- accumulator...check w/Victor at spinningwheels-sc .com
- relay(s)
- brake pressure switch
- failed ABS pump motor
- multi-wire ignition switch down on right side of steering column

See: http://www.sccoia.org/articles/anti-lock-braking-system/

The (red) ABS test connector is inside the right rear fender. Looks similar to the VIP test connector in the engine bay. Open the trunk and pull away the top edge of the trunk liner inside the fender. Might be taped on the harness.

I plugged in the scanner into the ABS port in the trunk and I cant get a reading from it. Is there a certain way to do it. I only see one plug with the 3 prongs
