Rust repair under battery tray (pix) what do you suggest?

I’m doing some work on the 35th and I removed the battery. I was a little shocked to find some of the metal under the battery tray was being eaten out. The car has less than 60k miles, so it’s most likely due to battery acid from an old or faulty battery. I know the most permanent fix is cutting and re-welding a new metal piece…but that will probably be in the future. I’m curious what you guys suggest as the next best approach without cutting and welding?
Thanks for any input fellas.

First wash it down with water and baking soda to neutralize any residual acit. Next hit it with a wire wheel on both sides. You will have to remove the wheelhouse liner to access the underside. After that, coat it with POR15 on both sides, then spray paint it with some Rustoleum on both sides. That should stop the rust where it is.
