The material is iron. Dayco calls it Spheroidal Graphite iron casting which is just another term for ductile iron. It is stronger than aluminum, stronger than regular iron but not quite as strong as steel.

Thanks for the info again man... I think that is the one I am going to go for. The Dorman one from the 98 F-150 4.2L can probably be used as well as long as the crank sensor ring can be transferred over from the old SC balancer to the new one. Downside to Dorman is that the HB hub is aluminum and not iron. It would likely work for a while...but.. we all know how that combo of aluminum hub and steel / iron ring work out.
One other thing.. What is the tooth count for the crankshaft ring on the PB1585N balancer?
