IRCM Troubleshooting

I have a quick question before I source a new IRCM.

I wanted to test the EEC relay function as i believe it is what is causing my no-start condition.

I grounded the module then jumpered pin 13 got no switching. I am back at home now, garage is about 30 minutes away and in having another look at the EVTM it looks like I might need to jumper both pin 8 and pin 13 to power.

The voltage inverter in the circuit is what is making me question myself.

Is this the case or should the relay switch with just pin 13 put to power.

I don't know which year SC you're working on, but as I recall, early/90 sees hot at all times pin 8, and hot start/run pin 13. Nothing is going out to the EEC (pin 24?) if pin 8 isn't hot.

Be very careful...testing off the car like this is a quick way to let the smoke out of an otherwise good IRCM. Touch the wrong pin w/12v, even for just a moment, and poof...

I prefer to check in-car, harnesses connected using backprobes and a DVOM.

Good luck.

Tks for the rep[ly.

This is a '91.

I am using clip-on insulated test leads so am not worried about inadvertent touching of the wrong pin.

Am hoping someone has done this before so I don't have to drive back to the garage to double check.
