Thanks, I really appreciate your input. Car has 83K and I am 30. Used to be a "parts replacer" not really a mechanic, but, I do know my way around an engine. Although I have never worked on an SC before. I imagine it will be an experience to remember. Don, I got a couple questions for ya, first, what brand thermo do you rec? Any favorites? What type of exhaust system should I purchase? Lastly, the cooling fan switch isn't adjustable? I would have to purchase the one you rec, right? I haven't had a chance to pressure check the cooling system yet, but I noticed the previous owner(old Chick) replaced the radiator twice inside of 2 years. (paperwork left with vehicle) Someone's
F'up at the dealership or possible future problems with car?

HEY, ASK AWAY GRASSHOPPER!!! ON THE T-STAT QUESTION, STANT MAKES GREAT THEMOSTATS. VERY COMMON AND VERY RELIABLE.

ON THE EXHAUST QUESTION, THIS IS THE RUN AROUND ARGUEMENT ON THIS SITE. WHO HAS THE BETTER EXHAUST IDEAS AND SUCH. I WOULD FIRST, REMOVE AND REPLACE THE RESONATOR, (LARGE MUFFLER UNDER CENTER OF CAR), WITH A HIGH FLOW ONE SUCH AS A FLOWMASTER TERMINATOR. THESE FLOW GREAT WITHOUT GETTING A RESONATION (HUMMING) IN YOUR EXHAUST. IF YOU PLAN A LOT OF MODS, GO WITH A SET OF HIGH FLOW CATS, 2 1/2" PIPES AND JUST TAIL MUFFLERS. HEADERS HELP A LOT BUT REALLY ONLY NEEDED IF REALLY HIGH PERFORMANCE.

DON'T BE INTIMIDATED BY THE ENGINE COMPARTMENT. UNDER ALL THAT TUBING IS A REAL MOTOR. RADIATORS ON THE SC PAST 1992 CAME WITH PLASTIC TANKS (PARTS ON THE SIDES OR THE RADIATORS), THESE WERE NOTORIOUS FOR LEAKS. JUST PRESSURE TEST THE SYSTEM AND KEEP IT TOPPED OFF. ALSO, DON'T GO TRYING TO DO BURN OUTS IN THESE CARS. THEY WILL HOP OFF THE ROADWAY!! INSTEAD, CONCENTRATE ON JUST GETTING A GOOD START. ALL BURN OUTS DO IS EAT YOUR TIRES.

COOL FAN SWITCH- IT IS NOT ADJUSTABLE, DOESN'T HAVE TO BE. THE FAN NOW COMES ON AT 226 OR 228 DEGREES, TOO HOT FOR A ENGINE. THE COOL FAN SWITCH, TURNS ON THE HIGH SPEED FAN WHEN THE ---RADIATOR--- HITS 200 DEGREES. THIS IS FAIR, THEN THE FAN COOLS IT UNTIL THE RADIATOR HITS 180. THIS KEEPS THE THERMSTAT AT 180-200 OPERATING TEMP, PERFECT FOR THE ENGINE AND COMPUTER. VERY EASY TO INSTALL AND YOU WILL DIFFENTELY NOTICE A BIG CHANGE IN WARM WEATHER. MINE DOES NOT GET ABOVE -O- IN NORMAL.
