Will running a power steering pump dry, if there had been nothing wrong with the pump beforehand, hurt it?
Situation is this; motor mounts went south, engine sagged onto power steering pump line, cutting it. Drove car twice after this for a total of about 20 miles before taking it to a mechanic, no power assist at all. Mechanic now has it, and will be replacing the mounts with the solid rubber mounts, and has ordered a replacement power steering pump line from Ford. After he has replaced the power steering pump line and refilled the reservoir, should I assume the power steering pump is shot, or does anyone think it might be okay?
