Virgil (bike Q?)
this is a question i am trying to figure out. And yes it is the Oil question. As you know my bike has a 50cc 2 stroke engine. now i spent the day researching on how a 2 stoke engine works and found out something very interesting. As the engine runs it sucks the gas/oil mixture into the crank case thust compressing the air/gas/oil mixture and lubricating all of the components such as crank and rings and bearings ect....
Now my engine has a solid drive transmission. key to remember. but on the engine i have this place to put oil in, regular motor oil. Now for some reason this oil never ever gets dirty, so i know the engine does not use it. The question is what is it used for? is it for the transmission or for the cooling of the engine? Also if it is for either one of them what kind of oil should i put in there, currently i have 10W-40, the one without the star symbol, as you mentioned is crap oil. So i followed your adive there. So if it is for cooling would a thick or thinner oil be good for heat disapation, and if it is for the transmission what would be the best thickness to lubricate the parts. The oil does get really hot, but like i said does not get dirty. And as we know oil does not last forever. Also when is the proper time to change it, every 3 months like a car (5000km) which i highly dought this bike will ever travel. I know this is a very interesting topic and i would like to know more.
