Here is the pic from the regular ultrasound from McMaster University this morning. During this ultrasound the baby kept sticking its tounge out, was cool to see, but it did not do it for this profile shot. You can see the heart to the right in the chest area, its the thing that looks like bubbles.

And this afternoon I took my wife to get a special 3D ultrasound. I also got a CD with 19 pictures on it, as well as a 37 minute DVD recording of the entire ultrasound! Expensive but well worth it. Since we were told the baby will have either mental or physical defects I wanted to have this done to reassure my wife everything will turn out OK, So far so good, the physical side looks good, the babies health and growing is normal to date, so now its just a waiting game to see how the extra chromosome is going to effect the baby, hopefully its just something minor.

Here are some pics. The baby had HER hands in front of her face most of the time but we got a few shots of the face pretty clear.

so lady like, legs crossed again. Sprout Jr had his legs wide open for his ultrasound pic, showing off his goods. typical guy if you ask me, and this baby is a typical lady of course.

Isn't modern technology amazing?!

Jamie,

Those are very cool images of your newest addition to the family!

Very close friends of ours went through a similar situation. Their child has a problem with a deleted chromosome. She is one of only six documented cases worldwide (for chromosome 6 deletion), and out of the six cases, she has the best prognosis now. They were told to be prepared for her to not survive the term of the pregnancy, and if so, then to not expect her to survive long after birth. Well, the doctors were wrong!

Today, Amanda is the cutest little girl! She's small for her age, and at three y/o she's still just learning to talk, but she is completely mobile, and very independant. I guess she is mentally handicapped, but she's only a little behind where she should be. Some of the physical peculiarities are that her limbs are different lengths. Not noticeably so (I mean she appears to walk normally, and she has full use of her arms and hands and all, but when you dress her, you notice that one sleeve needs to be rolled up a little, or one pant cuff needs to be rolled up a little). She's double-jointed in almost every joint. This is the biggest reason it took her longer to sit, crawl and stand. She needed more time than most babies to develop enough control of her joints, and enough strength to be able to do these things.

We're all expecting Amanda to start junior kindegarten next year at four years old just like all the other kids. It might take a little more work than normal, but it sounds like she will eventually be able to live a normal life. We get together with this family quite often, and whenever Amanda arrives, she always has a big hug for her "Uncle Sean", and it's often the highlight of my day!

The point is, the doctors typically feel it is necessary to prepare you for the worst, and so they will say some scary things. In their profession, it's easier to have you accept that things turned out better than you expected, rather than worse in the end. In life, there are always risks that bad things may happen, and we need to do our best to deal with them. In your case, the ultrasound results look encouraging at this point. I sincerely hope that you continue to have such good experiences with this pregnancy, and that the baby is born healthy. Just remember that even if the child isn't born perfect, you've got friends and family to lean on for support, and ultimately you can still have a happy and rewarding family relationship with that child.

Whether you end up needing it or not, you and your wife, your little guy, and that unborn baby are in my thoughts and in my prayers.

Sincerely,

Sean

Thanks for the kind words Sean, my wife feels a lot better after the ultrasound, I think things will be OK, if anything just something small, at least we hope, we are preparing for the worst but hoping for the best. :)
