i cant say where they can be redone, but for a price, anything can be done. However; to answer your first question, your car is 16 years old, i think that it is safe to say that it is normal to see a little wear and tear on the rims.

Hey..ThePikey....do you have a pic of your car with the black rims? I have a white SC with black pinstripes, trim and spoiler. I've tossed around either painting the wheels white to match the car or black to add to the trim. I'd like to see what yours looks like....

BTW..for anybody who cares, the wheels are powder coated from the factory. The "paint" which comes in the form of a powder, is applied with a spray gun while the rim is statically charged. This causes the powder to stick to the rim. The whole thing is then baked in a low temp (400-500 degree F) oven until the paint melts and adheres to the metal. Pretty cool process.

I'm sure many of you know this already and it may have already been discussed.

I don't believe mine are powder coated. On both my '93 & '94 the silver surface is flaking, like it's clearcoated. I was going to try and wet sand them; if not successful, I thought about painting them over. I did that successfully on my wife's Escort GT (which had painted alum wheels and the plastic hub cap just like the SC) and found a Subaru silver that matched exactly.
The chips generally are caused when the balance weights are moved and the tire shop doesn't use coated weights. The wheel on that picture above actually looked pretty good & probably just needs a little touch-up.

My 94s are definately powdercoated. The paint still gets scraped off from the wheel weights. No sign of clearcoat on mine.

Sorry-they are not powder coated at the factory-if they were we would not have the problems with finish that we do. I removed the paint on mine using an aircraft paint remover-you can't do that with a powdercoat finish.

The paint is a special formulation used for the wheels, and then they receive a clearcoat. There are some wheels that receive what's called the bright aluminum treatment-no paint, the wheels are buffed and installed.

Ok...I won't argue. I've looked at mine carefully and they appear to be powdercoated. I could be wrong of course. I deal with powdercoated parts on a daily basis and what I've got appears to be powdercoating. If not, it's a damn good paint. Powdercoated parts will chip and scrape also. You are correct about the paint remover though...it won't touch powdercoated parts.
