04 Cobra powered bird's worth

I would like to do the swap.I would do the swap if I was back to day one
of when I first purchase my SC.

I did a search for a 2003 or 04 Cobra complete drive train or complete car.
For the drive train,I ask for the price of these parts.
Complete motor
transmission,with all related parts
all sensors.
all coolant parts,plus hoses.
wire horness,with computor.

So far my search has turned up.

1.03 complete car with 3200 miles,$9500.00, in Ohio.

2.03 complete drop-in power.7000miles $10,000.00.in Ohio.

3.04 complete drop in power.27000 miles $12,999.00 in Alabama

4.03 motor, trans computor, want extra money for other parts.
has 23,000 miles,$19,995.00 in TX. I told him that is
higher price than new parts.

It looks like Ohio is the best place.I did a search a year ago,and
Ohio was best then to.And TX & NY is the worst place to look,
Last year & this year.

As cheap as SCCoA people are,and since they seem to have
valued the SC Bird & XR7 the lowest of anyone group.
I was just wondering if the SC Thunderbird that Ford could build
today was offered to SC enthusaest. If you all would even pay
or offer the price of the power & drive train.

Since I beleive the SC Bird & XR7 was the test bed for the
supercharge Fords of today.I think the Cobra motor would
be the perfect swap to a MN12 chassis.Since are car weighs
around 4000lbs,and a motor with close to 400 hp.Would be a
good choise to use 1 hp per every 10 pounds of car.Its
a bolt in with all Ford parts, except trans shifter mods that would
be miner mods to perform.

The blown mod motor would be a much better choise for power
swap than an crate 460 to 514 cid big block. And would be
the most cost effective. You get the fuel injection, blower,
etc.In the end a big block set up to todays standards would
cost more.

$9000.00 to $10,000.00 would be cheap compaired to fully moding
the 3.8 up to 400 rwhp. But with counting hidden cost I am sure
the swap would be higher. But including the reliability of the 4.6
and the HP that can be added with simple mods up to 500hp,
with reliability.Would be worth the swap if you were just starting
your build up of your SCBird. Its just the plunking down $10,000.00
in one lump sum thats the killer for this type swap.

Since all the good junk is in OHIO.And everyone has volunteered
XR7 DAVE for the swap.
Dave how much for the swap?
And when should I drop off my Bird to Supercoupes Unlimited.
And who all wants to buy $10,000.00 worth of motor parts
from me? :)

So my first and second research over a year apart has come up
to about the same amount as David N.search.

I think the swap cost, over the power and drive train parts.Would
be $1000.00 to $5000.00 depends on what you want and how you
go about the swap.So I beleive the swap would be around
$15,000.00 .If you would buy the parts from the internet and
did most of the swap on your own.

I just started this post.I thought some would want to know a
guess-ta-ment for this swap.

I am told you just go to Ford have a new key cut,
then enter a new code.

Without an existing key, you will have to take the whole car once you have installed the motor, and have them code keys for it. The logistics of this are a pita for whoever is trying to get the car running. I'd insist on a key that works. :p

Randy Ford dealerships are the only people that can or will reprogram the codes in the computer for the PATS system. True they can do it but the problem is this. PATS keys are not shaped like std Ford keys, so the head of the key(which contains the chip) may not fit into a SC key cylinder.
I havent looked at my SC's key cylinder in so long I'm not sure if they have those metal ears on them that the key head fits inbetween.
I have an SVT with the PATS system so when I get home tonight I'll try my PATS key in the SC and see if it will fit. :)

You guys are missing part of the equation. An owner can program more keys to their PATS vehicle if they have a good key to begin with. The PATS system will hold a certain number of key codes but the learn process requires a working key.

The problem comes in when you don't have any key. Then you must have Ford create new keys for it. The problem with that is, to do so requires that the EEC be powered up and the key inserted into the lock cylinder. So you would have to have both items functional before coding could be done even by the dealer. This means towing the car to the dealer and then towing it back home.

If you have one working key, you can use that key to activate the PATS system permanently in the car without affecting the stock SC key cylinder. I used to do this all the time installing remote start systems. However, the key to this is having a working key in the first place.

:)

I talked to my local SVT dealer,They say its not a problem
to do a key.
The only reason I would do this swap is because of
3.8 tuning issues.I have been tring to get a tune for a year now.
I really think the stang motor can be done in the time it takes
to gety a SC3.8 Bird tuned.And I don't see it costing any more ,
may be less in the long run.

I am putting my SC in storage because of no tune,And because
the oil is coming out of the roads, next week.
The 3.8 simple does not have the electrical parts or tuning back
up to make much over 400rwhp.I use to build harleys with
that and more power.400 rwhp in a 4000lb car does not get
my juices runnin.

Since Brian Herron has moved,my SC 3.8 is worthless and all
the mods I had line up.I love my MN12 chassis, but this motor
is useless.

I had to get my weekly whine in about this worthless motor.
Because its not been tunable for a year now, maybe more.I
am in over a year.I going out to my car a give swift kick.
Later.

THANKS RANDY

Randy are you going to be the next person to start a thread stating that you are giving up? :D Why dont you have Dalke tune your car? I would have him tune my car before I would let anyone else do it. I am sure he is more than capable to get the job done on your SC.

There is one guy that I know of in Ohio that is going to put an '03 Cobra "clone" motor in his SC so maybe after its been done by someone maybe you will concider doing it as well sometime down the road.

I bought this car to put a V-8 in it.I wish that I would have
stuck with my plans.I want a power plant that can be tuned
in a timley manner in my area on a dyno....

I can make just about anything I put my minded to.But I am
not a tuner. And there is no tuner in my area for this motor.
I cannot buy the parts needed to tune a 3.8 no one will sell to me.

This 3.8 power is the biggest mistake that I have ever made in
a motor.For the costs I can have 7 or 800 hp.There is not enough
electrical parts for this motor.to make any good horse power.
over 400rwhp

I believe the best thing to do is go with a mod motor with a A/R
blower. This power has back up to make horse power for less
money in the end.I would like to stay with this little motor
long enough to ware it out.But I would like to ware it out
not blow it up,because of to many hoops to jump through
to get chips burnt..It cost to much & takes to long for a
tune on these cars when you look at the full picture. The
3.8 is worthless.

I am going out to the shop and kick my SC again.
