We got a late start today because they had to finish up the late rainout from 2 weeks ago. I'd already been eliminated so I sat that part out. When we finally ran our time trials it was already after 2 and hot, 99 in the pits in the shade on the grass. I totally blew my 1st time trial except for the win part, a .583 r/t and a 13.45 e.t. Yuck! At least I beat a Mustang. Well, next up, second time trial was a Subaru WRX with an STI engine and a humongous IC. I saw the dyno sheet, 320rwhp & 335 rwt and weighed 3200 lbs. He beat me running a 13.05 to my 13.09! He jumped the start and I was a tad late and I couldn't catch him try as I might. I was quicker in the 1st 1/8 and he was quicker and 2mph faster in the 2nd 1/8. I made up for it though in my 1st elimination round by beating a Vette. It was one of the newer ones and broke with a 13.74 on a 13.81 dial while I ran a 13.272 on a 13.0 dial for an easy but gratifying win. I good naturedly taunted him back in the pits with a high pitched, "I beat a Vette, I beat a vette." We both got a good laugh. There were 4 Vettes there today. 2 ran low 11's and 2 including a 2005 ran mid to high 13's. My next elimination run was against a 69 Chevelle running a 14.22 on a 14.20 dial beating my 13.146 on a 13.05 dial. I bought back in and raised my dial to a 13.09 and ended up paired with the Chevelle again. Uh-oh I thought, he's going to get me again. This guy's good. Wouldn't you know, I ran a 13.05 on this round causing a breakout and I should have left my dial in alone. Fortunately, the Chevelle broke out too with a 14.15 on his 14.20 dial and I got the win. All right, I'm still alive. My next run was against a mid 90's Explorer who pulled a little shenanigans just to run me and pissed a couple of people off. Oh well, I kicked his butt and ran a 13.18 on my now 13.0 dial to his 18.07 on a 17.8 dial. The next round was the semi's and I paired up with a 69 Mustang who was the eventual night's winner. He ran a 13.61 on a 13.42 dial and just as I passed him I let off the gas to make sure I didn't break out, and, well, I shouldn't have. I ran a 13.11 on my 13.0 and lost by .0505. Would have probably won if I'd stayed on the gas, phooey! But, not a bad day. I'm thinking that a 13.1 dial in may be better than my 13.0 but I'll see. I haven't been to the semi's in awhile. My reaction times have been terrible all year and I really need to improve on them. I only had one sub .1 sec all day. Most were between .2-.3 sec and it's hard to win like that.
