Hello, ive just picked up a 89 SC 5spd tonight.Im new to the supercharged cars, but ive had a couple buddies with supercoupes/xr7s back in high school.Ive owned a 94 modular t-bird in the past and have been looking for another bird for a while.I just sold my 93 escort gt with a v6 swap so i could snag this car up.Im already experiencing some bucking problems with the car so ill be posting up once i get a chance to get the symptoms squared away and pull the codes.
 
that 10% underdrive is probably an overdrive on the supercharger ?? underdrives spin slower; overdrives spin faster

at least put a fan on the intercooler if u cant swap the pulley out to the stock one. i bet thats part of the reason its not running so well.

are u sure u have a centerforce 5 ?? i dont think they make such a thing. maybe a centerforce 2....
 
hmmm, the guy i bought it from said it was a force 5 clutch and i dont think he was talking about centerforce.Hes a big mustang guy so im guessing hes as clueless as i am about the clutch.It does have a very strong pedal feel to it compared to my buddies old supercoupe.After driving the car today, im leaning towards a fuel pump taking a dump on me.
 
post in the technical forum about the clutch and see if anyone's heard of it.

y do u say that about the fuel pump ?
 
if it were the pulley, wouldnt it be consistent? My car bucks if i slowly ease it into boost, or if i floor it.Once i get above 7ish psi, the car bucks and it feels like fuel cut or rev limiter.I had a mx6 gt that did the same thing and it was the fuel pump not keeping up with the load on the car.

not necessarily. personally i think u just need some new plugs and wires. but u need a fan on the intercooler, b/c that pulley is making alot of heat, which in turn the EEC will pull timing out to prevent detonation.

u can rent or buy a fuel pressure tester for cheap. hook it onto the valve on the fuel rail. this would rule out the fuel pump going bad.
 
18 year old fuel pump? I would change it just for peice of mind. Also change out most of the vacume lines and zip tie them. Remember that at boost there is now pressure on all the vac lines and they can blow off. Plugs and wires and pull all codes and you should be able to figure it out.

thanks guys for the help.I replaced the cam sensor,fuel filter,plugs, wires,and checked for vaccum leaks.The car now runs pretty decent and i can actually floor it.Im hitting about 14psi when it settles but it spikes at the bottom of the gear and slowly bleeds off.I tried measuring the pulley but i dont think i can get an accurate reading but im guessing its only a 5%.Next step is exhaust,a fmic setup,and more boost along with some supporting mods.Thanks again for the help :D
 
With a mostly stock engine setup and original intercooler, you won't want more than a 5% S/C pulley anyway. A 10% pulley will cause the S/C to introduce more heat into the I/C than it can efficiently remove, causing a decrease in performance. If you want to use a 10% S/C pulley, you'll want to go with a double I/C or FMIC.

glad to hear the cars running better.

i'd bet if you're pushing 14psi that u have a 10% on there. unless its really cold out up there. then u might be at 14 with just a 5%.

u can have someone port the blower and then u can efficiently run more OD. or pick up a late model blower w/ the coated rotors will help out alot too.

do some searching before u do your exhaust and FMIC and see what others have done.

yeah i sold the escort to nick(colonykid).I also post on brewcitymuscle and ive seen you on there too.My user name on there is rally_scort.I have the supercoupe for sale and ive noticed your selling yours too.
