    Question Speed Limiter

I know that its been said before as no, but has anybody gone fast enough to see if there is a speed limiter on our cars?

The tested top speed is 145 (I think) from the factory. Has anyone really push there SC to see if there is one above that speed?

I think Dave D said that some cars have the speed limiters set and others don't..

I've hit both of them in my 94sc automatic but I think it was govern'd around 120mph. I think the rev limiter was around 5200rpms

There are multiple speed limiters. On the Bonneville SC Project even with access to the source code of the EEC the tuners "missed" at least one of them and they had to defeat it by cutting the wires from the Vehicle Speed Sensor before they could explore the entire speed potential of the car. This was on a car with a 5 speed.

Sorry...apparently 5 speeds do have (or some had) speed limiters since as explained it had to be defeated in 1990 on the Bonneville SC Project car as described. The car was based on a 89 version pre-production 5 speed SC.

thats strange... wonder where mine is? 145 is scary enough... the moonroof starts to make hellacious wind noise... so much vaccuum is sucking it upwards..b

Well, in an undisclosed location and time I had mine movin pretty good. I looked at the tach and the needle was pretty close to 5000rpm so I'll say around 155. Just before I let off it sounded like I hit a speed limiter, kinda like the ones in the early 90's Cavaliers. That made me wonder cause I had my last SC up around 151 with no problems.

I've done somewhere in the neighborhood of 150 in my 90, so it's probably safe to say no speed limiter on my car.

I have not run up against a top end limiter in my '89 M5R2. I have been to 4400 rpm in 5th (one-fifty-something) and could have gone faster. Perhaps there is one somewhere beyond that?
