Well, I really don't know if I'd call it a "solution" or not. Here's the thread from up on electrical:

The bottom line is that I could find nothing wrong with any of the components. But, after disconnecting everything for testing, and then reconnecting, the problem was "solved". It seems to be fine now. But, because I didn't find a discrete problem, I can't be too proud about fixing it. More luck than anything...
