I saw this ad in the January issue of Readers Digest and it made me take a second look because it looks like a 1995 style thunderbird flying! So i went to the website and got another picture but no info on the flying tbird. Info on other episodes though.

The show is called the "Re-inventors", and they take old inventions from the past and build them to see if they are valid ideas or not.

The flying car invention came from the 60's when they thought that cars would be flying on a regular basis in the not-so-distant future.

The base-model T-bird they used was heavily stripped down to reduce weight, AND it had no propeller to power it once in flight. They literally "drove it off a cliff" at speed to see if in fact it would glide!

All-in-all, it didn't do so bad, gliding for 50 feet or so, but oh what a messy landing! They should have picked a car that was lighter to begin with, but T-birds are just so darned cheap these days aren't they?

Any way, it was definitely good for a laugh... :)
