M5R2 Something finally went right ?

I'm a little hesitant to say this for fear of jinxing myself, but......

The tranny guy at the shop finally found some time to open my trans....and....and....it looks great inside Hard to believe that it has 213k miles. All the gears are in great shape, no chunks of metal, etc. Not that I'm a trans expert but I couldn't see any wear...anywhere. Looks like it'll just need new synchros and I'll be good to go.

On a somewhat related note, I popped the heads off the engine that originally came with the car. Virtually no ridge at all on the cylinders.

I'm thinkin' that, until the HGs blew....and the coolant washed out the bearings....this was a well cared for car and not thrashed.

Cheers
DD

Stock pistons are so slippery, I haven't heard of an SC motor taken down that had any ridge on the cylinder.. Usually you can still see the factory cross hatch.

Good deal on the trans. I'm sure mine will look good when I pull it apart as well... though 2nd gear might have some ...wear.
