Death in the Family

I wasn't at Jenro's for the past two weaks as I was in IL saying goodbye to a long time honored friend. My Grandfather passed Tusday May 6th of natural cause at the rightful age of 96. He was in integral part of his hometown of Virden, IL. A firefighter, handyman, hardware store worker/owner, town councilman, treasurer, pastor at Atwater Chritian Church, a mentor/teacher to anyone who came within listning distance. To know Anton Borella is a blessing on its own. He left his mark on a town, and kept making marks until the day he died, be it giving advice to his children (Tom, and his wife), or giving new ideas to a young preacher. He would never say he had all the answers, just enough to help where he needed to. He was the type of person that would give the shirt off his back without asking why, when to expect it back, or what's in it for him.
The most common thing for people to say to me is "Sorry for your loss." I ask why, I'm not sorry. It's not out of coldness, but out of respect. He wouldn't want me to dwell on the loss, but celebrate the fact that he was. Remember the man he was, and take what I can from what he has taught, and live.

Even when they live such a long and wonderful life and touch so many lives including your own it doesn't take away the loss that we fell. I lost my mother in March and she was suffering with no chance for any quality of life and I knew it was the best for her. I miss her and the rest of the family is also gone, my dad and sister. But I have two little girls 3 1/2 and 1 1/2 and the circle of life continues. Hope you enjoyed your day today!

Stephen

Thank you. He was who he was, just as anyone else is. Life happens, and now it is time to move on. I just felt it appropriate to pass along what kind of person he was to those closest to me. For me, I guess, it's a way to remember, and honor my Grandfather.
